The Dark Knight Movie Casts Armie Hammer as a Vigilante — But It’s Not Batman

2008 was a significant year for comic book movie fans, as Christian Bale’s portrayal of Batman in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” hit theaters. At the same time, Warner Bros. selected Armie Hammer to play Batman in George Miller’s unreleased film titled “Justice League Mortal.” This movie would have featured D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as the Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, and Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter. Regrettably, “Justice League Mortal” never saw the light of day, and Armie Hammer never had the chance to embody Batman on screen.

Despite facing accusations of rape and violence in 2021, the troubled actor has been chosen for the role of a vigilante in Uwe Boll’s film, “The Dark Knight”. As reported by Variety, Hammer portrays “Sanders”, a character who pursues justice personally by tracking down criminals. Initially, his actions gain him popularity and a following on social media, while the local police chief views him as a threat to society and plans to apprehend him.

I’m thrilled to talk about Uwe Boll, a director renowned for bringing popular video game worlds to life on the big screen, such as his work on “House of the Dead” (2003), “Alone in the Dark” (2005), “Far Cry” (2008), and both the “In the Name of the King” and “BloodRayne” series. What’s particularly exciting is that, this time around, he’s not just adapting someone else’s story, but directing from an original script he penned himself!

As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but notice the striking similarity in title between Uwe Boll’s latest production, “Dark Knight,” and one of the most iconic films of the past two decades. However, according to executive producer Michael Roesch, Variety reports that the two movies are quite distinct, so there’s no need to worry about confusion arising from their shared title.

Roesch shared that Armie Hammer is set to star, with other top-notch actors yet to be revealed, in a new film from Boll. With a remarkable script, they’re eagerly preparing for this project following the success of their previous works, First Shift and Run. Anticipate another powerful movie coming soon!

In his 37th directorial venture, titled “The Dark Knight”, Boll expressed that the story’s relevance in today’s context is palpable, and he’s thrilled to bring it to life with this remarkable ensemble. The production for this film commences in Croatia on January 27, marking a reunion with director of photography Mathias Neumann (previously worked on “Assault on Wall Street” and the “Rampage” trilogy), line producer Boris Velican (“Blubberella”), and editor Ethan Maniquis (“First Shift”).

During a recent episode of the “Your Mom’s House” podcast, Hammer casually mentioned a project he had been working on before it was known by its current name. This podcast has a section called “Addressing The Cannibal Allegations,” where they discuss rumors about his alleged interest in cannibalism.

The actor from “The Social Network” and “Call Me by Your Name” mentioned that he’s been declining job offers lately, as his schedule is getting quite busy. He shared that the first time he rejected a job opportunity after four years in the industry was the most satisfying feeling he’s ever experienced. Interestingly, none of these opportunities came to him through an agent.

After the success of Social Network, Hammer’s later career saw some high-budget films that didn’t perform well at the box office, such as The Lone Ranger (2013) and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015). More recently, he starred alongside Gal Gadot and Kenneth Branagh in Death on the Nile (2022).
