As a lifelong fan of political thrillers and espionage stories, I am beyond excited for the upcoming series The Day of the Jackal! With a stellar cast led by Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, this modern retelling of Frederick Forsyth’s classic novel promises to be an unmissable watch.
One timeless, highly influential political thriller that previously graced our screens is being reimagined for a brand new Sky series. This time around, it features the talented Eddie Redmayne (from Fantastic Beasts) and Lashana Lynch (known for her role in No Time to Die).
The Day of the Jackal is a contemporary reimagining of Frederick Forsyth’s novel, which had already been made into a BAFTA award-winning and Academy Award-nominated movie in 1973.
The origin of this reinvention is attributed to Top Boy writer Ronan Bennett and Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk. Notable figures in the industry such as Charles Dance and Money Heist star Úrsula Corberó will also be featured in this production.

The Day of the Jackal premieres on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Thursday 7th November 2024.
The series is jointly produced with the American streaming platform, Peacock, where it will find its home when crossing the Atlantic.

In “The Day of the Jackal,” Eddie Redmayne takes on the role of the cunning title character, a relentless assassin whose deadly actions spark an international crisis. This happens even before he is commissioned to eliminate one of the world’s most influential figures.
In the role of Bianca, Lashana Lynch portrays a dedicated MI6 agent who is relentless in her pursuit of apprehending the Jackal before he strikes again. However, her intense workload threatens to disrupt her precious personal connections.
The show has assembled a star-studded supporting cast too, including Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist), Charles Dance (The Crown), Lia Williams (Mr Bates vs The Post Office) and Chukwudi Iwuji (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3).

What is The Day of the Jackal about?
The Day of the Jackal refers to a suspenseful story about a British intelligence agent on a mission. This character is trying to track down the whereabouts of the world’s deadliest hitman, who has set his sights on an important public figure.
Although the tale has already been shared – in the iconic 1971 novel and its critically-acclaimed 1973 movie version – rest assured, with Eddie Redmayne leading the cast, there are numerous elements that set this contemporary adaptation apart and make it resonate with today’s audience.
He shared: “This film was a favorite we’d repeatedly rewatch as a family. So, when I heard they planned to reinterpret it in a new way, I found that quite daring.
…”I found the content utterly captivating and hard to put down. It frequently took me by surprise, leaving me feeling a bit disoriented, but my curiosity always compelled me to keep reading.
For several years, I had stayed away from television work. Yet, the prospect of delving deeply into this mysterious character seemed rich in potential, making it an intriguing subject matter for exploration.
