The Dingles mourn Emmerdale’s Zak in early ITVX streaming episode

As a long-time fan of Emmerdale, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as we bid farewell to the legendary Zak Dingle, portrayed so brilliantly by Steve Halliwell. Over the years, his character has been woven into the very fabric of the village, and his absence will undoubtedly leave a significant void.

In the recent episode of Emmerdale, the villagers grieved over the passing of Zak Dingle, a beloved and iconic figure, who was deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.

When Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) received a call from Debbie (Charley Webb), informing her that Zak had passed away in Scotland, she shared the sad news with his son Cain (Jeff Hordley) that Zak had died peacefully in his favorite armchair following a day spent hunting.

Zak shared with Debbie that he’d experienced the greatest day in memory before drifting off to sleep with a smile on his face. Meanwhile, Moira, hiding her intentions, chose to postpone her brain tumor operation, causing a heartbroken Cain to depart to share this shocking news with his family.

In an emotional moment, Cain reunited with his brother Sam (James Hooton) and sister Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) following a day of hunting rabbits together. Later on, Sam expressed that it was appropriate for him to take Belle out, as Zak had asked him to do so.

Cain made a point of stopping by each member of the Dingle family, including granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill), Charity (Emma Atkins), his sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter), Marlon (Mark Charnock), Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Vinny (Bradley Johnson).

Upon reaching Wishing Well cottage, Cain embraced a weeping Belle, while the scene shifted to a picture of Zak and the departed Lisa (Jane Cox).

The Dingles convened privately to express their grief, yet Chas chose to escape, eventually collapsing outside where Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) provided solace. In a heart-to-heart conversation, Chas opened up to Liam about the renowned Dingle court and the intimidating persona of Zak during his younger years.

In the meantime, Lydia (Karen Blick) phoned Kim Tate (Claire King). Kim, finding out that her longtime friend Zak was no more, was deeply distressed by this news.

Afterward, Sam, Belle, and Cain stood gazing across the meadows, offering one another comfort, until the Dingles were united with companions to witness Cain and Sam departing for Aberdeen, aiming to retrieve Zak. Scenes filled with emotion followed.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 7:30pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
