As a dedicated gamer and long-standing fan of the Final Fantasy series, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of these legendary games gracing my Xbox console. For years, I’ve been yearning for the day when I could embark on epic quests in the world of Gaia without being tethered to a PC or PlayStation.

On August 28, 2024, the gaming site Eurogamer held an interview with Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P), the director and producer of Square Enix’s widely-played MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14. During this conversation, they talked about Square Enix’s recent commitment to making more of their games available on Xbox consoles.

In a recent interview, Naoki Yoshida expressed that due to the successful debut of Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox platforms, Square Enix is looking to strengthen their bond with Xbox gamers even more. He also mentioned that following the release of Final Fantasy 15 in 2016, the number of Final Fantasy fans using Xbox consoles has decreased somewhat.

Nevertheless, as Naoki Yoshida notes following the game’s “extremely positive response,” Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox seems to have been well-received. To quote directly from the interview:

By utilizing Final Fantasy 14’s arrival on Xbox, let’s seize this moment to fortify our community connections within the broader Final Fantasy series on Xbox. To do this effectively, we should prioritize increased communication and strategic efforts in building a stronger presence for the community. This initiative is crucial not just for Final Fantasy 14 itself, but also for Square Enix as a whole, considering the substantial time, energy, and dedication put forth by Phil Spencer to bring FF14 to Xbox. Therefore, we aim to leverage this opportunity to foster an even stronger bond with our Xbox gaming community moving forward.

Naoki Yoshida points out that Xbox consoles have historically faced challenges in gaining popularity because fewer people tend to play them. Yet, he emphasizes that Square Enix intends to reverse this trend with their innovative approach of launching games across various platforms, thereby inviting a wider audience to enjoy their games. To quote Naoki Yoshida, “We aim to bring our titles to as many players as possible.”

Starting with Final Fantasy 14, we aim to bring more Square Enix games to Xbox in the future. We’re excited about expanding our presence on this platform, and there are definitely more of our games in store for you on Xbox. Here’s hoping players get excited about what’s to come!

Recently, Xbox users have found themselves devoid of highly praised Square Enix games such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 16, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (among others), due to these titles being PlayStation exclusives for a certain period and their availability on other platforms like PC.

In this interview, Naoki Yoshida has hinted at the potential for Final Fantasy 16 to be released on Xbox consoles following the completion of its PC version. This could mean that the long-awaited arrival of Final Fantasy games on Xbox platforms might soon become a tangible reality.

As an analyst, I find it increasingly plausible that highly-anticipated Xbox ports are on the horizon. Recently, I had the opportunity to interview the developers of Final Fantasy 16, and they expressed a desire to bring their game to Xbox platforms in the future. Additionally, during my latest podcast livestream, I subtly suggested that games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 could potentially be preparing for an Xbox debut.

More Square Enix games on Xbox please

As a devoted fan of the Final Fantasy series for quite some time now, I share your enthusiasm about potentially seeing more Final Fantasy games appearing on Xbox consoles. The recent interview with Naoki Yoshida and Jez Cordon’s hints sparked my excitement that this might become a reality. Though playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox would be wonderful, I am particularly hopeful for an Xbox version of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection.

Experiencing remastered editions of the initial six Final Fantasy series on the move through Xbox Cloud Gaming would be fantastic. These reboots would complement Xbox Game Pass’ extensive collection of games wonderfully, joining other cherished Xbox JRPGs such as Dragon Quest XI, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Persona 3: Reload, and more.

While it remains to be seen if Square Enix will fulfill their pledge and bring these cherished games to Xbox platforms, there’s no need to idle away your time. Instead, you could explore Square Enix’s upcoming Xbox/PC title, Visions of Mana, set to debut on August 29, 2024. Additionally, you can test out the free playable demo currently available for the PC version of Final Fantasy 16, which is slated for release on September 17, 2024.
