The Duskbloods Will Feature a “Cute” Companion in the Player Hub

In an interview with Nintendo, Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of The Duskbloods, has shared that the creature at the game’s trailer end will be the player’s primary ally in the hub area. Miyazaki likened this character’s role to the Fire Keepers from Dark Souls and the Maiden in Black from Demon’s Souls.

In Miyazaki’s words, “That figure plays a role analogous to the Fire Keepers found in the Dark Souls games. These characters are stationed within the central zone, offering helpful tips and suggestions for the player.

Regarding the unique appearance of the creature that might serve as a mascot for The Duskbloods, Miyazaki explained it as an innovative attempt by FromSoftware during their collaboration with Nintendo on this game. In essence, he suggested they aimed to incorporate a touch of Nintendo’s style, reflecting the spirit of their partnership.

For a refreshing twist, we opted for something adorable instead of our usual fare. However, it’s important to note that the character in question is, in fact, an older man.

In previous games created by FromSoftware, such as Elden Ring and Dark Souls 2 or Bloodborne, a character often joins the players on their journey. This could be through active travel alongside them, like in Elden Ring, or managing their main base, providing support from home, as seen in Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne. It’s possible that the unknown creature in The Duskbloods may follow a similar pattern.

In many games, this character is typically the one players engage with to perform actions such as increasing stats using resources like Souls, Runes, or Blood Echoes. These characters frequently play significant roles in the game’s narratives as well. For instance, in the game Dark Souls, the fire keepers are crucial figures that have been preserving the fires from going out.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but imagine the thrill of having a character like mine become a permanent fixture at the home base in The Duskbloods. This suggests that the game might offer some form of progression beyond just the matches themselves. Though FromSoftware has kept many details about the game under wraps, the fact that it’s billed as a PvPvE match-based title with AI-controlled enemies and human opponents hints at a fresh start for every bout. Each encounter could be a new adventure!

The game titled “The Duskbloods” was first unveiled during Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct presentation last week. As of now, a specific release date hasn’t been set. FromSoftware has indicated that they aim to launch the game within the year 2026. The game offers more than a dozen playable characters, and the relationships players build with others will be shaped by the roles they choose.

In each game, there’ll be a team of eight competitors who may become allies or adversaries, as they navigate both interpersonal relationships and environmental perils, including artificial intelligence foes. Additionally, players have the option to select characters based on their distinct talents and personal play preferences.

The studio has made clear that although they’ve been focusing on developing multiplayer-oriented games, they are equally dedicated to creating more single-player titles down the line. At present, it’s worth noting that FromSoftware owns the intellectual property for The Duskbloods.
