This year in gaming, one significant storyline continues to expand, with Bethesda Game Studios announcing over the weekend on Bluesky that the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has amassed a player base of 4 million.
We deeply appreciate the more than 4 million of you who’ve already explored Cyrodiil using Oblivion Remastered. A big thank you!
On Tuesday, after nearly two years of whispers and speculation, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was officially revealed. Immediately following the announcement, it went on sale at various online retailers, a tactic known as “shadow drop,” allowing gamers to dive right in without delay.
Originating largely from Virtuos and backed by Bethesda Game Studios, this game showcases updated graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5, along with fresh voiceovers. The core Gamebryo engine has been tweaked slightly but remains generally consistent with the 2006 debut version.
Clearly, having 4 million players doesn’t equate to selling 4 million copies of the game. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, all first-party Xbox games are accessible at launch for subscribers, allowing them to play without any additional cost.
Despite this, it remains an impressive achievement, and I’m curious to see how far its growth extends in the future. The game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle by MachineGames, which was published by Bethesda Softworks, reached 4 million players just months after its release on Xbox and PC in December 2024.
Currently, most gamers appear to be having a good time with the game. However, players using PC Game Pass are at present eagerly awaiting an official solution following an update, as it temporarily halted DLSS upscaling in their version of the game.
Right now, you can play The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (through Steam and the Xbox app), and PlayStation 5. For comprehensive information about the various editions of Oblivion Remastered, I recommend checking out my detailed guide.
