Stop right there, criminal scum. Do you have enough room for the Oblivion Remake 120GB file size?
Bethesda’s upcoming leaked remaster for the fourth Elder Scrolls has fans enthralled.
But reports on the changes, its release and the amount of hard drive space have some concerned.
Oblivion Remake 120GB File Size
It seems as if it were just six days past when information about the fourth Elder Scrolls title found its way online. Since the launch of Skyrim over 13 years ago, fans eager for Bethesda RPG content have been anxiously awaiting fresh updates.
Information about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which is rumored to launch before the end of this month, has apparently been revealed. Here are some changes we might expect:
1. The blocking mechanism has been influenced by games in the Souls-like genre.
2. Sneak icons will now be more prominent for easier detection.
3. The stamina system has undergone modifications.
4. The HUD (Heads-Up Display) has been redesigned.
5. Hit reactions have been added to make combat feel more dynamic.
6. Archery mechanics have received an overhaul for improved gameplay.
7. Additionally, there will be enhanced hit reactions to make combat more engaging.— Michael (@LegacyKillaHD) April 15, 2025
unexpectedly, images emerged of Cyrodiil rendered in Unreal 5, and contrary to speculation, this wasn’t connected to the ongoing Skyblivion mod development. Instead, it seemed like a full-fledged remaster of Oblivion was being worked on.
This remastered version appears to be striving for a combat system similar to games in the Dark Souls series… It seems they are intending to enhance responsiveness, prioritize stamina conservation, and provide more feedback. Additionally, new Sneak indicators, a Stamina management system, updated user interface, improved hit responses, and an overhauled archery mechanic are also included in the updates.

However, the leakers not only revealed the upcoming Oblivion Remake, but they also disclosed its massive file size of 120GB. A piece of information like this could potentially overload even a robust storage device!

Initially, the game’s file size was just 4.7 GB, but after adding all the DLC, it expanded to 8 GB. In contrast, the remade version of Oblivion is a massive 120 GB, which is approximately 25 times larger than the original!
Compare this to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which takes up just 50 GB of space, and see how that compares to other contemporary video games.

This game boasts the same expansive scale as Red Dead Redemption 2, a fact which could be attributed to its high-resolution assets and re-recorded voice lines. If this assumption holds true, then it’s worth noting that they have opted for new voice actors to portray the iconic voices of Cyrodiil, not just one individual!
It’s intriguing to discover the updates in the remaster, yet it’s quite a letdown that the game is as large as Sun Wukong! (Sun Wukong is a prominent figure in Chinese mythology, known for his immense strength)
I Have Never Ruled Sizes Of Games On My Hard Drive
120GB for the remake of “The Oblivion” file size seems like a red flag to me. It suggests uncompressed data, excessive graphics, and potential issues.
Just a heads up, it looks like you’ll need to purchase the DLC separately, including The Shivering Isles and, of course, the Horse Armor. Seems like the horse armor is causing quite a stir.

Upon learning the latest updates, I acquired and commenced playing the original version for contrast, and let me tell you, it’s an exquisite game indeed. However, the bitterness of microtransactions seems more potent than the sorrow from Oblivion. My steed dons armor, but it serves no purpose in combat – not even a speed boost!
However, that’s not the only issue; one DLC introduces a hereditary wizard manor. In the opening scene, a distant relative passes away and bequeaths me the keys to the wizard tower. At the onset of the game, I have the ability to instantly teleport to it and immediately begin crafting the most potent spells ever conceived.
But there’s more trouble; one expansion pack offers a wizard ancestral home. A relative who I barely know dies and leaves me the deed to the wizard tower. As soon as the game starts, I can teleport directly there and start brewing the strongest spells possible from the get-go.
It’s also interesting that Bethesda incorporates the detail of older wizards bequeathing their properties to their heirs, which adds a touch of realism to the fantasy.
Over the brief time I’ve been enjoying the original version, I’ve developed a deep affection for it. It saddens me to imagine Bethesda desecrating another cherished game by fans. Thankfully, it’s not Morrowind they’re tampering with this time!
