As a gamer, I’d put it this way:

First off, to chat with Countess Valga, make your way to Chorrol and then straight to the Grand Hall within Chorrol Castle. If you drop by during daylight hours, she’ll be seated on her throne, making her rather easy to spot. When you engage her in conversation, she might share some intel about an ongoing investigation, depending on our relationship. If I’ve managed to keep her happy, she’ll spill the beans about the case. A little bribe never hurts, if you catch my drift!

Once we’ve got her on our side, we can ask about the investigation again and accept the quest to Canvas the Castle. She’ll hand over a key, which allows us to explore the castle’s private quarters for clues.

In conversation with Valga, she’ll provide a roster of possible suspects and encourage you to interact with each one to search for tangible evidence within Chorrol Castle. The lineup includes castle herald Laythe Wavrick, court mage Chanel, steward Orok gro-Goth, castle porter Orgnolf, and Chorrol guard captain Bittneld. You’re allowed to accuse any of these individuals for the theft of Valga’s painting, but beware that doing so without solid evidence may negatively impact their regard towards you, making it more challenging to extract information from them in the future.

Instead, try to influence their willingness using a Persuasion-based mini-game or offer incentives for them to provide the necessary hints. Once you’ve done this with all five characters, Orgnolf and Chanel become the key suspects to investigate further. From there, you must locate three pieces of evidence hidden in Castle Chorrol.

Clues You Need to Find

The initial hint is a strange piece of art located in the West Tower of Castle Chorrol. To access this artwork, you need to open a hidden passageway in the West Tower concealed behind some boxes.

Next, feel free to venture towards Chanel’s chamber to uncover the subsequent hint. Inside Chanel’s desk, you may find painting tools, which could implicate her as the main suspect.

The third and last hint is hidden in the dining room of Castle Chorrol. Take a close look at the carpet that has paint stains on it, and point the finger at Chanel for the accusation.

In this scenario, Chanel will admit to stealing the painting because she is enamored with Count Valga. Subsequently, you’ll be faced with a decision on one of two possible outcomes: either inform Countess Valga about Chanel or deceive Count Valga regarding the true identity of the thief.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that tipping off Countess Valga about Chanel could lead to her departure from Chorrol. In return, you’ll be rewarded with a generous 200 Gold and two Imperfect Topaz for a task excellently accomplished!

Should you opt to falsely claim that no suspect was found within the castle, Valga will reward you with 50 Gold coins for your efforts. Meanwhile, Chanel will appreciate your actions and encourage you to return to her in three weeks, where she’ll present you with a portrait of your character as a token. Once you have a place to hang it, this painting can serve as a decoration within your home.

With that accomplished, I find myself completing the Canvas the Castle quest, and my journey within the enchanting realm of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered remains unfinished.
