Although the launch of “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn” is yet to come, this project represents a significant departure for Owlcat Games. Having dabbled in numerous prototypes, including six specifically for combat, they’re steering away from the typical triple-A game design, despite the game’s striking visuals.
In an interview with WCCF Tech, creative director Alexander Mishulin shared that they aim for their game to have a highly realistic, cinematic feel while still being accessible to players. Despite this, he clarified that they aren’t designing the game explicitly with the goal of making it a AAA-quality production.
Rather than creating it, the team is working on making this an “engrossing ‘The Expanse’ adventure,” where players, whether they prefer complex narrative games with impactful decisions, action RPG enthusiasts, or simply fans of ‘The Expanse’, can all participate, immerse themselves in the game, and feel comfortable within its world. Just like ‘The Expanse’ makes you feel at home despite its uninviting universe, this is our strategy for this game.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can confirm that the narrative takes place right in the heart of the first and second (and a bit more) seasons of the captivating TV series. This intriguing tale is none other than Owlcat’s unique creation, unfolding within the very same universe we’ve come to love.
In our conversation with Alcon, they expressed their desire to broaden the universe’s scope and explore additional tales, a goal that aligned perfectly with ours. Our narrative unfolds concurrently with all the books’ and show’s events, meaning the crisis at Eros Station (as depicted in the initial trailer) and Canterbury’s destruction will have rippling effects throughout the game.
During much of the journey, you’ll gain insight into how the universe and our entire solar system reacts to the events unfolding and the exploits of Holden and his crew. Some incidents, however, will be directly observable by you.
Despite not yet announcing a specific launch date, “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn” will be playable on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC from its initial release. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition goes for $59.99, offering Miller’s OPA Heavy Armor, the Spec Ops Assault Rifle, and having your name featured in the credits as added bonuses.
Lastly, you’ll find the Miller’s Pack priced at $79.99. This pack offers the previously mentioned perks along with Miller’s Casual Outfit, Miller’s Gun, entry into the Hall of Fame, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and early access to beta trials.
