The Expanse Returning With New Story Set After Season 6 (But Needs Fans’ Help)

The popular The Expanse franchise kicked off a new Kickstarter project on Wednesday, quickly surpassing its funding target. Notably, this space opera has previously achieved success through crowdfunded comic books. Among the potential upcoming releases, The Expanse: A Little Death promises to be one of the most intriguing installments. Original writers Andy Diggle and artist Francesco Pisa will reprise their roles following the success of The Expanse: Dragon Tooth, with an interesting addition – Wes Chatham, a star from the TV series, making his comic book writing debut. His contribution seems fitting as this self-contained story delves into Amos Burton’s troubled past and its repercussions during the narrative jump in the series.

The comic book “The Expanse: A Little Death,” from creators James S.A. Corey and BOOM! Studios, was funded on Kickstarter with an initial goal of $50,000. However, fans swiftly pledged close to half a million dollars in just 24 hours, far surpassing the original target. Given the immense success of the previous “Expanse” comic series, “Dragon Tooth,” which garnered over $1.4 million on Kickstarter, it’s clear that this project will indeed be realized.

Enthusiasts can’t wait for these tales that help maintain the narrative flow and link the TV series to the books. The television program ended in 2022, adapting the sixth book, “Babylon’s Ashes“, yet there are actually three more books that carry on the story from where it left off. At this juncture in the novels, a time leap of thirty years takes place, and spectators frequently yearn for the show to be rebooted at some point when the actors have grown older, so they can conclude the saga.

For the interim, “Dragon Tooth” captivated viewers with a fresh tale occurring within this 30-year timeframe, and “A Little Death” appears ready to follow suit. As per the campaign, the Rocinante crew finds themselves embroiled in a high-stakes conspiracy when an old friend of Amos Burton’s seeks his help. Fans have already witnessed how dark this narrative can become when Amos’ past is at play. However, in this intergalactic journey, it remains uncertain how or why his terrestrial connections will entangle him.

In the Kickstarter campaign for “A Little Death“, you have several choices – a full digital set for $20, a softcover graphic novel for $25, a collection of individual issues for $35, or a hardcover graphic novel with a slipcase for $50. As rewards increase, backers may receive signed copies of “A Little Death” and the entire “The Expanse: Origins” graphic novel series.

The anticipated delivery date for all these rewards is November 2026, and since we’ve surpassed our funding targets, we can now focus on exciting additional goals. These top three stretch goals are still hidden, so there’s plenty to keep supporters excited!

You can grab ‘The Expanse: Dragon Tooth’ and ‘The Expanse: Origins’ right now, either in print or digital versions. If you prefer watching your stories unfold, the TV series based on these novels is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. And for those who love to listen, the books are also available as audiobooks. Lastly, the upcoming book ‘A Little Death’ has received funding, but there’s still time until October 31st to claim some exclusive Kickstarter rewards. The book is expected to be delivered in November of 2026.
