The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Marvel Studios Celebrates Official Start of Filming

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fanatic who has patiently waited for years to witness the rightful arrival of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of anticipation! The lineup of upcoming MCU films was already impressive, but the inclusion of a long-awaited Fantastic Four film has sent my geeky heart into overdrive.

Over the weekend, San Diego Comic-Con occurred, and during their Hall H panel on Saturday evening, Marvel Studios captivated fans with a sneak peek into four upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films: “Captain America: New Frontier”, “Thunderbolts”*, “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps”, and “Avengers: Doomsday”. Although it was expected that the sequel to Captain America and “Thunderbolts”* would be showcased, many were taken aback as the event included footage of the long-awaited Fantastic Four movie. The cast members, Pedro Pascal (playing Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) joined in from London where the film is currently being filmed. Although it appears that some footage has already been shot, Marvel Studios only recently announced the official start of production for this movie.

“Embarking on the journey with The Incredible Four today! Filming for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps has officially begun, and it’s not until July 25, 2025, that you’ll get to witness this epic adventure in theaters. #SDCC Here’s a sneak peek at some interviews with the talented cast and director Matt Shakman from yesterday’s Comic-Con event. Catch it below!”

Apart from the main four characters, the movie will also introduce Paul Walter Hauser (known for his work in Black Bird and Cruella) in an unspecified role, along with Ralph Ineson portraying Galactus. Furthermore, Julia Garner will take on dual roles as both Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Natasha Lyonna and John Malkovich are also part of the cast in undisclosed roles.

“When considering whether or not to accept the job, Hauser mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s potential hadn’t been completely solidified yet. However, he feels strongly that the combination of the script, talented crew members, and an exceptional cast (comprising both established and rising stars) make this movie unique and a project he wanted to be involved with.”

Matt Shakman is handling the directorial duties for the upcoming film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set for a theater release on July 25, 2025. Previously, Shakman has stated that this reboot will significantly deviate from past efforts to adapt Marvel’s original superhero family for the silver screen.

As a devoted admirer, let me share my perspective: This project is uniquely distinct in numerous aspects. Alas, I can’t delve into the specifics, but trust me when I say it’s a radical departure from traditional storytelling and filmmaking methods. It aligns perfectly with the material, offering an experience that I believe will be unlike anything you’ve encountered before, even within the Marvel universe. I yearn to reveal more, truly I do, but unfortunately, I am bound by constraints.
