In Paul Walter Hauser’s words on Sam Roberts’ Show, he shares his excitement about the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” distinguishing it from recent Marvel Cinematic Universe releases. Hauser believes that this film will aid Marvel in overcoming the challenges of the Multiverse Saga due to its focus on family dynamics. Hauser asserts that by connecting audiences with the characters through familial bonds before exposing them to life-threatening, multiverse dangers, the movie will allow viewers to truly “fall in love” with the superheroes.
Hauser commented that the latest Marvel film is both intelligent and stylish, with a strong emphasis on family as a central theme. He added that viewers often develop affection for these characters, which is crucial because if they don’t care about the characters, repeated danger doesn’t have the same impact. Hauser suggests that Marvel might be returning to this approach.
Starting this July, I’m thrilled about the arrival of “The Fantastic Four: First Strides” on the big screen – the much-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe revamp of Marvel’s First Family! The movie features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as our beloved quartet. Remarkably, these talented individuals will once again embody their characters in “Avengers: Doomsday”, a fact confirmed by Marvel’s viral casting reveal just last week!
The movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” premieres about half a year following the release of “Captain America: Brave New World,” which received mediocre reviews and failed to meet expectations both critically and financially. With mixed feedback, “Brave New World” ended up as a disappointing box office performance for Marvel Studios. At present, its global earnings stand at $409.6 million, placing it among the lower-grossing films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One key factor behind Marvel’s incredible success during the Infinity Saga was their ability to make viewers emotionally attached to the central characters. Fans were captivated as Iron Man and Captain America fought to save the world, as they genuinely empathized with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. However, some argue that the Multiverse Saga hasn’t been as successful because Marvel seems to be falling short in this area. The post-Endgame characters haven’t evoked the same level of emotional connection as the Original Six Avengers. This can partly be attributed to long breaks between appearances (Shang-Chi reappears five years after his solo film in Avengers: Doomsday) and certain productions receiving mixed reviews due to plotlines that fail to evoke strong emotions. If viewers aren’t emotionally invested in the characters, they won’t fully care about the action unfolding on screen.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast and Marvel fan, I’m eagerly anticipating “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” (and the upcoming “Thunderbolts”) as potential comebacks for Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU has a lot resting on these summer releases, and if they don’t live up to expectations, it could significantly affect the excitement surrounding the anticipated epic finale in “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” Luckily, the audience seems excited about this new take on the Fantastic Four. The film’s first teaser trailer garnered over 200 million views within its first day, making it one of the MCU’s biggest trailer debuts. If the final movie can replicate those numbers, the franchise will be in a strong position. I can’t wait to witness the family dynamics unfold amidst the chaos of sci-fi mayhem.
