As a seasoned Soulslike veteran, I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I heard the developers of The First Berserker: Khazan might be considering adding difficulty options to their game. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve shed more tears over game overs than I care to remember, but there’s something oddly satisfying about that struggle.
Souls-like games seldom provide adjustable difficulty levels, which is a distinctive trait of the genre, and it appears that’s the approach developer Neople took with their upcoming action RPG, The First Berserker: Khazan. However, prior to its release, the developer has maintained that the game won’t include difficulty options. Yet, there’s a possibility that the original plan might have been adjusted.
In a recent chat with GamingBolt, Neople mentioned that due to feedback from the community, they’ve been experimenting and evaluating the possibility of an easier game mode. At this point, it remains uncertain if this mode will be part of the final product, but the team is certainly considering whether such an option should be explored.
Initially, we said that we didn’t intend to include difficulty settings, but now, within our team, we’re experimenting with a less challenging mode. Originally, our focus was on immersing players in the character’s struggles and fostering empathy. However, some players asked for adjustable difficulties. Although we haven’t decided if there will be an easy or story mode yet, our aim is to make the game more accessible to a wider audience and enhance their enjoyment. We’re currently conducting internal tests on these changes and plan to carry out further trials before releasing anything publicly.
On March 27, 2025, the initial release of “The First Berserker: Khazan” is set to drop for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. A preview of the game will be available as early as January 16. Keep an eye out for our in-depth interview with Neople, coming soon!
