Two classic games from the roots of first-person shooters are getting even better.

At QuakeCon 2024, a listing reveals that id Software’s DOOM and DOOM II will be coming together in an updated bundle. This collection offers several enhancements, such as support for 4K resolution and 120 frames per second on compatible systems due to the games now running on the KEX engine. Additionally, it boasts cross-play functionality, along with new accessibility features including font adjustments, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and additional options.

Users have the option to switch between the classic soundtrack and a fresh update by composer Andrew Hulshult, who has collaborated with id Software on the soundtrack for DOOM Eternal’s Ancient Gods DLC extension. This updated version additionally features new audio recordings specifically for DOOM II.

Apart from the earlier stages we’ve shared, we’ve got an additional single-player adventure titled “Legacy of Rust.” This adventure, a joint effort between id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, is now available.

The combination pack of DOOM and DOOM II isn’t on sale right now, but it should become purchasable as more details emerge during QuakeCon, which is ongoing.

Previously, studios such as Bethesda Softworks, id Software, and MachineGames have partnered with Nightdive Studios to enhance and update games like DOOM 64, Quake, and Quake 2. Particularly, the remastered version of Quake 2 has received notable praise for its improvements and additional features.

The DOOM series is set to keep moving forward, as its next main installment, DOOM: The Dark Ages, is planned for release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025. As an exclusive title from Xbox, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate starting from the day of its launch.
