The Flaming Lips Drummer Steven Drozd’s Teen is Missing

As a die-hard Flaming Lips fan who’s been riding this cosmic wave since the late ’80s, these past few days have been a rollercoaster ride of emotions that I never bargained for. The news about Steven Drozd’s daughter Charlotte and their collaborator Nell Smith has left me utterly heartbroken.

The Flaming Lips are asking the public for help.

14 days past the Seattle Police Department’s confirmation of multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd’s 16-year-old daughter Charlotte “Bowie” Drozd as a missing person, the band has made an appeal for help.

On Instagram, October 7th, lead vocalist Wayne Coyne humbly requested assistance if available. He mentioned that she was last spotted at the Space Needle in the wee hours of Saturday….He promised to share additional details as soon as possible.

In a heartfelt message, Drozd, who is married to Becky Drozd and has a son named Daniel with her, thanked Wayne Coyne for his plea while also updating on how his family was managing through the chaos. He penned down, “Thank you Wayne for posting. We’re at a loss as to what to do.

According to the SPD, they confirmed the news regarding a woman named Charlotte who went missing on October 5th. This incident took place in the 400 block of Broad Street, near a popular tourist attraction in Seattle. On that day, she was wearing khaki-colored shorts and pink shoes. Additionally, it’s possible that she may have been heading towards downtown Seattle.

In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’d put it like this: Amid the ongoing search, an overwhelming wave of support and well-wishes flooded in from fans and loved ones. One dedicated fan commented, “May she be found safe and sound very soon.” Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist, Flea, also joined in, offering his prayers with “Godspeed.

Over the past couple of days, The Flaming Lips have experienced a profound sense of sorrow. Nell Smith, a 17-year-old who was well-known for her collaborations with the band on their 2021 album “Where the Viaduct Looms”, tragically passed away on October 5th.

Three years back, we created an incredible album with her. Just yesterday, we received tragic news that she had passed away in a car accident. Tonight, as we stand here in Portland, Oregon, we are reminded yet again about the impact of music and the comfort it brings to be surrounded by loved ones.

The Canadian singer’s family confirmed the news on Instagram with a heartfelt tribute.

It deeply saddens us to announce that our spirited, gifted, one-of-a-kind, radiant daughter was tragically taken away from us last Saturday night,” Nell’s family posted on October 7. “We are struggling to cope with this devastating news and find ourselves at a loss for words and actions.

In her 17 years, she managed to touch so many lives and accomplish so much, yet there was still so much more she could have experienced. Her family shared that she’s left a lasting impression on the world, while creating an empty space in their hearts that can never be filled. They asked everyone to hug their children a little tighter tonight, and for now, they requested privacy as they navigate through this difficult time. Rest assured, they will reach out when needed. Love, Jude, Rachel, Jed, and Ike.
