The Grabber Returns in Freaky New Black Phone 2 Trailer

After a series of enigmatic video teasers over the weekend, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have unveiled the complete trailer for the upcoming movie titled “Black Phone 2“. This new trailer provides the initial footage from the chilling sequel to the horror franchise, while also confirming that Ethan Hawke’s character, The Grabber, will reappear in the narrative. The storyline of “Black Phone 2” unfolds years after the original film, with Mason Thames once again taking on the role of Finney. Notably, original cast members Madeleine McGraw and Jeremy Davies also return as Gwen and Terrence respectively. You can watch the spine-tingling trailer for “Black Phone 2” below.

Similar to the original “The Black Phone,” the 2025 follow-up is helmed by director Scott Derrickson, who appears to be reintroducing some of the style that made his 2012 film “Sinister” a significant success. The initial glimpses of “Black Phone 2” show gritty, unsettling clips of various deaths and assaults by The Grabber, which strangely echo the chilling horror of the original movie. Just like the first installment, “Black Phone 2” is penned by C. Robert Cargill and Derrickson, and produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, with Scott Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill serving as producers. Joe Hill and Ryan Turek oversee the production of this new sequel.

What Is Black Phone 2 about?

Following on from the events of “The Black Phone” a few years ago, I’m eagerly anticipating the sequel that seems to be weaving an intriguing continuation of the film’s mythology. In this new chapter, it looks like our protagonist Finney will continue his journey as he grapples with the lingering trauma of being captured by The Grabber. The trailer hints at The Grabber’s basement having deteriorated and been vandalized (“The Grabber Burns in Hell” scrawled on the wall, nodding to “Carrie”), but what particularly piques my interest is a tantalizing glimpse of how Ethan Hawke’s deceased antagonist may still be involved, once again through a black phone.

In the trailer for what appears to be “Black Phone 2”, Finney’s little sister Gwen recounts a disturbing nightmare, hinting at her psychic talents reminiscent of those displayed in the initial movie.

One intriguing enigma in the upcoming movie Black Phone 2, as hinted by its trailer, is the depiction of three young boys who appear to have met a grisly end at a summer camp. Could these unfortunate souls have been among The Grabber’s earliest victims? Possibly, some unaccounted-for cases in the past? Only time will reveal the truth.

Will There Be More Black Phone Sequels?

The tremendous earnings at the box office for “The Black Phone” strongly hinted at the creation of a complete horror series. With an estimated production cost of $16 million, “The Black Phone” managed to earn over $160 million globally. If the box office figures weren’t already signaling that “The Black Phone” would continue its run, the trailer for “Black Phone 2” on Universal’s YouTube channel confirms the launch of a new horror franchise with the release of “Black Phone 2.” If this turns out to be true, it looks like this series will keep expanding.

The Black Phone 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 17th.
