The Grand Tour producer says last ever special is “emotional” and “weepy”

As a long-time fan of The Grand Tour and a connoisseur of all things automotive, I must say that the news of their final episode has left me with a mix of emotions. It feels like saying goodbye to old friends who have been on quite a few adventures together over the past decade or so.

In just about a month, the final episode of The Grand Tour will air, marking the end of its five-season run that spanned nearly eight years.

In a new adventure, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May plan to embark on another journey, this time exploring Zimbabwe in a series named “One For The Road.” It seems that some emotional experiences might occur during their travels.

During a talk at the Edinburgh TV Festival, executive producer Andy Wilman characterized the upcoming episode as both heart-wrenching and emotionally charged. However, he cautioned devoted viewers not to anticipate a particularly grandiose conclusion for the series.

He put it simply, “Nothing much transpires, if I may say so.” For those expecting an action-packed adventure akin to Avengers: Endgame, they might be disillusioned as it’s purposely subdued. However, their bond and camaraderie is exceptional.

He commented: “They part ways more heartfelt than any hosts would manage, for they share a deep bond. They can joke about each other and then get sentimental too. It’s quite touching and tear-jerking.”

Earlier this week, Amazon’s Prime Video unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, ending with a heartfelt teaser featuring Clarkson concluding: “And now, for one final time – let’s get going.”

As a dedicated cinephile, I couldn’t help but share my excitement over the latest sneak peeks of our upcoming episode! Freshly unveiled are three captivating shots that hint at our trio’s journey in Zimbabwe. In one image, we see them roaring with laughter, a testament to their camaraderie. Another shot features them posing alongside their vehicles, while the third image finds them relaxing around a campsite. I can hardly wait to see what adventures unfold for our intrepid heroes!

As a long-time fan of Top Gear, I eagerly await each new episode, and the latest one sounds particularly enticing. The synopsis suggests that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May embark on their next adventure, disregarding Mr Wilman’s instructions, as they often do. This time, they set off for Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always lusted after: a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-liter, and a Triumph Stag.

Of course, while they have been appearing together on The Grand Tour for the last eight years, the presenters’ time sharing the screen goes back much further to their long stint on Top Gear, which they hosted as a trio between 2003 and 2015.

Previously, I shared my reasons behind hanging up my presenting hat for the show, stating that “I’ve taken cars higher than most and driven them further north than any other. We’ve explored every possible automotive adventure. Now, it’s time to move on.” (as a film enthusiast)

“When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”
