The Hidden Darkness Behind The Monsters’ Immortality in From Season 1 Revealed

In the first season of “From,” a previously overlooked detail suggests a harsh truth concerning the origins of the monsters. In the finale of the third season, we learn more about the monsters’ origins as they are portrayed as immortal beings. The character known as Smiley (Jamie McGuire), who was believed to have been killed by Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) in season 2, is surprisingly brought back to life. Additionally, it is disclosed in the third season how these monsters acquired their immortality, with the revelation that they sacrificed the children of the town to gain their everlasting lives.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel excited as this new information sheds light on the mysteries surrounding the monsters and the enigmatic “Anghkooey” children. With each passing day, my anticipation for season 4’s premiere grows, yet it also fuels more curiosity about the monsters themselves and the pact they made to achieve immortality. A tantalizing hint in one of From’s most captivating episodes, specifically season 1, episode 7 titled “All Good Things…”, seems to suggest that the monsters’ immortality might not be as straightforward as we thought, offering a fascinating glimpse into their deal and its implications.

One Of From’s Monsters Says “It Wasn’t My Choice To Be This Way”

This Is Said Shortly Before The Colony House Massacre

In the episode titled “All Good Things…”, an unfortunate incident known as the Colony House massacre takes place. One of the residents, Kevin (played by Christopher Hayes), develops feelings for a creature who introduces herself as Jasmine (portrayed by Molly Dunsworth). Despite communicating through a window, Jasmine persistently tries to gain entry. Eventually, moved by her words, Kevin allows her inside. This decision proves disastrous, culminating in the Colony House massacre. A part of what Jasmine says to persuade Kevin to let her in is, “You can’t imagine how lonely it is out here. I didn’t choose to be this way.

It’s clear that Jasmine is subtly trying to persuade Kevin to let her enter Colony House by tapping into his feelings of empathy for her loneliness. However, it’s also possible that her words might contain a grain of truth, as the most convincing lies often do. For instance, she could be genuinely lonely and not have chosen to transform into a monster – aspects that could provide insight into the agreement they made to gain immortality.

Jasmine’s Words Hint At A Harsh Reality About The Deal The Monsters Made

The Monsters May Have Been Deceived

If Jasmine speaks truthfully, it alters our understanding of where the monsters originated. Previously, it was known they sacrificed children to achieve eternal life; however, they might have been unaware that such a choice would transform them into literal monstrous beings. This could account for why Jasmine claims she didn’t choose her current state, as all she desired was immortality without becoming a ferocious, night-dwelling creature. It also suggests the monsters were tricked and did not fully comprehend the true price of their sacrifice.

Season 2 93%
Season 3 100%

It’s been suggested that Douglas E. Hughes, or the Man in Yellow, is the one who crafted the monsters and leads them. If this hypothesis, along with the theory surrounding Jasmine’s statements, holds true, it implies that the Man in Yellow has tricked and controlled the monsters. Such deceit would solidify his status as the main antagonist in From, not just for the townspeople, but also as a villain to the monsters themselves.

In the world of From, it’s unlikely that even a shared adversary could bring the monsters and townsfolk together. Yet, the concept is thought-provoking. As for the Man in Yellow’s influence on the monsters, if they were indeed deceived, it doesn’t change the fact that their actions – such as sacrificing children for immortality and the countless atrocities since – are undeniably evil. I eagerly await season 4 to see if there’s any truth in Jasmine’s words beyond her manipulation of Kevin.
