Update [Mon 5th May 2025, 4:45pm]:
Creator Kazutaka Kodaka has ruled out the chance of a PlayStation 5 version for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy.
Initially, there seemed excitement about a potential PlayStation conversion of Too Kyo, sparked by one of its co-founders suggesting they were prepared to work on it over the weekend. However, further clarification revealed that his statement was actually about their plans for multilingual support rather than a console conversion.
As for the prospect of other platforms, well, they’re exceptionally low it seems.
He stated on BlueSky that he wasn’t discussing transferring to different systems, but rather addressing the topic of multi-language support.
Regarding moving to different models, I’ve discussed this point numerous times previously. However, I thought it was essential to make things crystal clear: at present, we have no intentions of doing so, and the likelihood is extremely low.
It’s clear that Too Kyo made decisions prioritizing this project, and we can empathize with their financial constraints. However, given that the game was released by a subsidiary of Sony, the overall result is quite disappointing across the board.
It seems that numerous fans are asking Sony’s subsidiary ANIPLEX to bring The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy to the PS5, however, the delay appears to be due to the financial stability of the game’s developer, Too Kyo.
On BlueSky, Kazutaka Kodaka, the joint founder of Too Kyo with Kotaro Uchikoshi (known for creating Danganronpa and Zero Escape respectively), expressed his eagerness to immediately develop new iterations of the game. However, he mentioned that financially they are currently teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.
Previously, during an interaction with Nintendo Life, Kodaka stated that the game might not continue if sales are poor. Fortunately, it has received excellent critiques, and seems to be selling fairly well on both the Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
Despite his launch timing, unfortunately for Too Kyo, the spotlight was seized by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s surge in popularity and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered’s sudden release.
Wishing the skilled development team can gather sufficient resources to settle their debts first, then proceed with creating the PS5 version as planned.
