The Hunger Games on stage is officially coming to London this autumn

Initially planned for a global debut in fall 2024, the show has encountered some setbacks and is now scheduled to start from October 2025 at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre instead.

In the play directed by Matthew Dunster, famed for creating “2:22 – A Ghost Story,” we find ourselves revisiting the characters of Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and 22 other combatants, all participating in a lethal competition called The Hunger Games.

The performance will be staged uniquely in a circular setup, with Miriam Buether handling the set design, Moi Tran taking care of costumes, Charlotte Broom choreographing, Lucy Carter focusing on lighting, Ian Dickinson for Autograph working on sound, Tal Rosner designing videos, Kev McCurdy overseeing fight scenes, John Maddox from Suspended Illusions handling performer flying, Amy Ball dealing with casting, and Gary Beestone managing the production.

After the reveal of the play in 2024, author Suzanne Collins expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled to be working alongside the talented duo of Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster, as they breathe life into their captivating and fresh take on The Hunger Games for the London stage.

The lineup for the upcoming play is still under wraps, but rest assured, ticket sales commence in March.

This year, Hunger Games enthusiasts are in for a twofold treat, since the upcoming prequel novel focusing on Haymitch Abernathy is scheduled to hit the shelves on 18th March.

The novel “Sunrise on the Reaping” will continue the tale of the 50th Annual Hunger Games, or the Quarter Quell, where Haymitch emerged victorious. It’s slated to become a movie in 2026. If you’re eager to read it first, you can pre-order your copy from Waterstones now.
