The Hunger Games Prequel Finds Its President Snow in Harry Potter Star

The franchise is merging seamlessly with the global community. With the upcoming release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, nearly ready for filming, a fresh face has been added to the cast of this prequel.

Over the last few days, the cast of the Haymitch prequel has been expanding significantly. Whitney Peak, known for her role in Gossip Girl, will take on the character Lenore Dove Baird in the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping film. Meanwhile, Jesse Plemons, an Academy Award nominee, has joined the project to portray a younger version of Haymitch, a character previously brought to life by Woody Harrelson in the original films. The production has also confirmed that Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in Harry Potter, will be the new President Snow.

The disclosure wasn’t entirely unexpected. In fact, it was hinted that I would portray a cunning politician as early as April. However, we had to wait for an official announcement before things were confirmed.

Producer Nina Jacobson expressed her excitement about casting Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, stating that she had long desired to collaborate with him since his chilling performance in “Schindler’s List.” She went on to say that it was a genuine thrill to have him join the Hunger Games franchise. The intention was to pay tribute to Donald Sutherland by having one of today’s most esteemed actors portray President Snow 24 years before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena.

Some “Hunger Games” enthusiasts may find this disheartening as well. For a while now, supporters of the franchise have been advocating for the role that Donald Sutherland’s son initially played in the films, to be given to him instead. However, following the news that Fiennes was negotiating for the character, fans took to social media to argue in favor of casting the star of “24” instead.

In the earlier adaptation, Coriolanus Snow was played by someone other than Donald Sutherland. Tom Blyth portrayed the younger version of the character in the 2023 prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Although Blyth has previously acted in a different role, the upcoming prequel’s events occur decades later. In a recent statement, Blyth mentioned that Rachel Zegler and he will not be part of this new installment because it is set 45 years after their storyline. This news saddens him as he misses working with everyone involved in the previous production.

He went on to say, “I recently sent a message to Francis, and he replied, ‘I’ve been missing you.’ To which I responded, ‘Modern prosthetics are quite advanced nowadays. It wouldn’t be too challenging to make me appear 65 years old.’
