The Inbetweeners star offers troubling update on reunion

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours engrossed in the world of television and film, I must confess that The Inbetweeners holds a special place in my heart. The series was a breath of fresh air when it first aired, and its subsequent films only solidified its status as a modern British comedy classic.

Simon Bird, known for his role in “The Inbetweeners,” expressed that a reunion for the Channel 4 sitcom seems rather improbable to fans, as he put it.

From 2008 to 2010, the comedy experienced a very prosperous period. Subsequently, it was translated into two movies that were both blockbusters in the United Kingdom.

Regardless of the show’s ongoing popularity on streaming platforms, the original cast members – Bird, James Buckley, Joe Thomas, and Blake Harrison – have largely discouraged discussions about creating additional episodes or seasons.

Until not long ago, the prospect of a third film had seemed remote. However, recent remarks made by Thomas during the Always Be Comedy podcast have rekindled these expectations.

Alas, Bird has now stepped forward “to be the one pouring cold water on this”.

He informed MailOnline, “There will be no reunion. Let me make it clear, there’s absolutely no chance for it to happen.

The cast is eager, but the decision doesn’t lie with us; it’s in the hands of the writers, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, and I must say they are quite occupied these days. Regrettably, there’s no higher chance of it happening now compared to ten years ago.

Bird went on to say, ‘I believe it was a comedic production set within a specific era.’ Therefore, there’s been no talk about creating a new series or movie.

The performer, now known for his role on Channel 4’s sitcom Everyone Else Burns, admitted that he hasn’t revisited The Inbetweeners since its production in 2008 and can no longer recall many of the lines recited to him by fans.

“I have no idea what they’re talking about,” he added.

The Inbetweeners star offers troubling update on reunion

Previously, Bird indicated that a reunion of The Inbetweeners cast, considering their ages now being late 30s or early 40s, might result in something “melancholic and awkward.” Meanwhile, co-star Buckley has expressed that he wouldn’t consider returning as Jay for any amount of money (as mentioned by Spencer Matthews in Big Fish).

It was quite unexpected to overhear Thomas discussing the idea so positively with an optimistic outlook a month ago. He mentioned that a reunion project had been contemplated in multiple ways, and expressed that “we all seem to feel it would be pleasant.

Thomas went on to say: “We’re all still here, we’re still part of one another’s journeys. We still appreciate each other. If there were a situation that arose, I believe we would be inclined to act.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m afraid it might be best for us to sync our thoughts with a casual gathering, but sadly, the prospect of The Inbetweeners 3 appearing on the big screen any time soon seems rather distant at this moment.
