The Knick Star Teases How the Series Could Return

André Holland, who starred in the canceled Cinemax TV show “The Knick,” shares the same enthusiasm as fans for a potential revival of the series. The actor expresses hope that more people will appreciate the project to demonstrate sufficient interest for a return. Spanning two seasons, this Steven Soderbergh-directed series was set in a bustling New York hospital at the dawn of the 20th century, with Clive Owen also appearing as a cast member. Despite its captivating plot, exceptional acting, and immersive historical backdrop, “The Knick” was unfortunately terminated in 2017. Upcoming, Holland will be featured in “The Actor,” scheduled for release on March 14th.

Clive Owen spoke to ComicBook about his character Algernon Edwards from “The Knick,” saying it left a lasting impact on him. “This role transformed my life and career, and it’s one I’m eager to revisit as there’s still so much more to explore. We’re holding out hope.

Holland hinted that a key factor in resurrecting the series could be the enthusiastic backing from fans. He emphasized, “Keep your hope burning. We rely on you to discuss it, spread the word about it, and persuade others that there’s a desire for this among the public.

Holland remains the driving force for the return of “The Knick,” as Soderbergh stated in 2020 that Holland had been collaborating with director Barry Jenkins, who is also known for “Mufasa: The Lion King” and “Moonlight,” on a potential third season.

[André] and Barry stepped up to it. I told them, ‘You know, I had my chance. Good luck, go wherever you want with it,'” the filmmaker revealed to The Playlist. ” [André and Barry] developed a fantastic strategy along with [original showrunners] Jack and Michael … And it seems to be moving quickly. I recently read the pilot script, which is excellent.

The first season of “The Knick” garnered an 87% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but its second season outperformed it with a remarkable 97% positive score. Despite the series being costly and receiving favorable reviews from critics, it didn’t draw a sufficient audience to keep running on Cinemax. However, given the dramatic changes in distribution platforms over the past decade, it’s anyone’s guess where a “The Knick” revival might end up.

While eagerly anticipating the latest developments on “The Knick,” I’ve found solace in immersing myself in Holland’s performance in “The Actor.” This film, derived from Donald E. Westlake’s novel “Memory,” presents us with Paul Cole (Holland), who finds himself in a puzzling small town, bereft of his memory and origins. With no sense of self or direction, he embarks on a new journey, pursuing a local costume designer Edna (Gemma Chan). As fragments of his past gradually resurface, he strives to return home, but time proves elusive, deception lurks in appearances, and it remains uncertain which of his personas truly represents him.

Keep an eye out for news regarding the potential future of “The Knick”. Meanwhile, mark your calendars as “The Actor” arrives in cinemas starting March 14th.
