As a seasoned gamer with years of gaming under my belt, the prospect of The Last of Us 3 being closer than we think has me more excited than Joel and Ellie finding a can of Pepsi in an abandoned supermarket.
It’s possible that the release date for The Last of Us 3 could be approaching sooner than expected, based on recent updates from Naughty Dog. This speculation stems from comments made by Neil Druckmann, who is both the head of Naughty Dog and a co-creator of The Last of Us series, serving as its creative director.
In a recent podcast interview, Neil Druckmann hinted at working on a project he’s been developing since 2020, although he didn’t explicitly confirm it as The Last of Us Part III. However, given the upcoming demands for fresh content following the TV show’s completion and the story’s coverage of the second game’s events, there’s a strong likelihood that this project is indeed The Last of Us Part III. It’s also possible they might be working on a new intellectual property or potentially reviving the Uncharted series, but those possibilities seem less likely at present.
As a devoted admirer, I can attest that Druckmann shares that PlayStation has granted him an immense degree of autonomy in handling the project, which comes as no surprise given his impressive background and indispensable role within PlayStation. Yet, he’s not been entrusted with deciding when the unveiling will take place.
In other words, given that the game started being developed in 2020, we can assume it’s been under development for about four years now, implying it’s likely well advanced in its production phase.
It might be unexpected for some PlayStation enthusiasts, but considering Naughty Dog’s history – having released their latest title, The Last of Us Part 2, in 2020 – it’s not too far-fetched to assume they’ve been working on something new since then.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve been delving deep into Naughty Dog’s timeline, and it seems we might not have to wait too long for this enigmatic game they’re working on. You see, four years separated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End from The Last of Us Part 2, their last two major releases. Now, it’s been four years since the release of The Last of Us Part 2. Given their pattern and development times, it looks like this upcoming game might be just around the corner. Whether we’ll catch a glimpse of it in 2025 or not, that’s still uncertain, but it definitely falls within the realm of possibilities. Fingers crossed!
