Season 2 has been packed with unexpected events at every turn, but it’s gearing up for an exciting progression in the upcoming episodes. The three episodes aired so far have centered around the escalating power of the infected, the looming threats from outside humans, the survival of Jackson, Wyoming, and the dynamics between Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Joel (Pedro Pascal), and Dina (Isabela Merced). Jackson has been overrun by Cordyceps vines and a horde of infected. Joel met a tragic end at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), and Ellie and Dina are now on their way to Seattle, where they plan to confront the W.L.F. militia.
In a more casual tone: Though “The Path,” the third episode of The Last of Us season 2, was somewhat slower paced, it laid the groundwork for what’s to come. It didn’t have as much emotional punch as episode 2, but its importance can’t be overstated. Now that Ellie and Dina are gearing up to confront the W.L.F., the direction of this series hangs in the balance. With season 2 episode 4 just around the corner, we can expect more high-octane excitement soon!
The Last of Us Continues a Tragic Story
Ellie and Dina Are Approaching Seattle
Following Joel’s heartbreaking demise, Ellie has been compelled to focus on healing, strategizing, and making the initial moves towards retaliation against Abby. The extended time gap provided ample room for plotting revenge, and Dina proved an ideal partner in this endeavor. Armed with knowledge about their adversary, they lobbied Jackson to dispatch 16 survivors to confront the Seattle-based militia. However, their efforts were continually rebuffed, leaving them with no other choice but to seek help from Seth (Robert John Burke), who had previously incurred Ellie’s wrath due to his harsh words at a gathering.
After spending years in Jackson’s tranquil environment, Ellie and Dina are en route to Seattle, ready to face circumstances they’ve never encountered before. On their journey, they stumble upon a gruesome massacre site where innocent men, women, and children were viciously murdered by the same group that Ellie and Dina are pursuing. As more evidence surfaces suggesting the W.L.F. are almost beyond redemption, the two are gearing up for a fierce battle against their new adversaries. However, they’re unaware of just how formidable Seattle’s defenders might be, with hundreds of soldiers protecting the city. The upcoming episode will show them making their initial moves against the W.L.F. and its people.
Where and When to Stream The Last Of Us Season 2, Episode 4
This Will Be the Season’s Halfway Point
Episode 4 of The Last of Us Season 2 promises to ramp up the action, as Ellie and Dina prepare to confront their adversaries. This escalation is sure to bring unexpected developments, sparking lively discussions online and around the water cooler. Given the excitement, viewers should mark their calendars for Sunday, May 4 at 9 PM ET and 6 PM PT. Craig Mazin will remain as the episode’s writer, while Kate Herron (known for Loki) steps in as director, marking her debut with The Last of Us. This fresh directing style may introduce a unique perspective to Seattle within the show.
In sync with other episodes from this season airing on television, this one too is set to align with HBO’s streaming release plan. With episode 4 debuting on HBO’s premium cable network, it will also appear on Max, HBO’s streaming platform, concurrently. The episode is likely to be accompanied by the fourth episode’s edition of ‘The Last of Us Season 2 Podcast’, a discussion available across most podcast platforms. For further insights into the season, viewers can explore ‘The Last of Us Part II’, the game that serves as the basis for this season and future episodes. However, there might be some alterations in the upcoming episodes. Nonetheless, the episode will adhere to the rest of the season’s pattern by airing on Sunday at 9 PM Eastern.
What to Expect From The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 4
Seattle Will Be Far More Dangerous
As summer rolls on, the upcoming episode promises plenty of intense moments. A sneak peek from HBO suggests that Ellie and Dina will engage in a high-stakes battle against the infected within an underground train station. They’ll also stumble upon the remains of W.L.F. soldiers, presumably slain by the infected. Interestingly, Ellie may finally get to fight a W.L.F. soldier for the first time since. Regrettably, the next episode will set Ellie and Dina against one another, as the teaser hints that Dina will aim her weapon at Ellie following their clash in the train station. It seems that Ellie might receive her fourth infection bite in the show’s course, leading to a challenging scenario where she must persuade a tearful Dina that she is indeed immune to the Cordyceps virus.
In addition, it seems the upcoming episode might offer insights into the past of the W.L.F., possibly showing the downfall of FEDRA in Seattle. This is suggested by the initial scene where Jeffrey Wright’s character, Isaac, interacts with a group of unarmed citizens while dressed in full FEDRA gear. Since Wright played Isaac in the game, this ties another link between the two portrayals. However, it’s worth noting that The Last of Us season 2 might tweak some aspects of Isaac’s story. Regardless of his actions towards the crowd, it appears Isaac will play a crucial role in the conflict between Ellie, Dina, and the Seraphites. The forthcoming episode is expected to disclose more about Isaac, the W.L.F., and the bond between Ellie and Dina.
The Last of Us is streaming on Max.
