Craig Mazin, the showrunner behind HBO’s The Last of Us TV series, has addressed worries about Bella Ramsey’s look for Season 2.
In a natural and easy-to-understand manner: At age 21, Ramsey gives off a youthful vibe that suited her role as 14-year-old Ellie in The Last of Us Season 1 exceptionally well. Nevertheless, some fans have raised concerns because, although the character is five years older in Season 2, Ramsey doesn’t seem to have aged as much as Ellie does throughout the two video games. This might make her appear too young for the part she is playing now.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin acknowledges this, but doesn’t really agree.
Mazin explains, “Some viewers find it hard to believe that Ellie, who appeared to be around 14 in season one, hasn’t visibly aged even though she’s now 19. However, it’s worth noting that not everyone ages at the same rate; some people change drastically while others remain relatively unchanged.
Mazin expresses that he doesn’t focus on the physical side of things, however, over the years while editing, he has noticed that Bella has definitely matured in her appearance.
Instead of dwelling on someone’s physical traits, he expresses his fascination with their emotional growth and personal transformations.
Mazin shares that he’s witnessed Bella evolve into a self-reliant individual, establishing her identity distinctly from her parents. Now, she’s pondering over how to assert her autonomy and explore the boundaries of true independence by asking herself questions like “how can I learn to stand on my own now and experience this newfound freedom?
Regarding his portrayal in Season 2, Ramsey expresses that he deeply identified with the character Ellie, and anticipates that viewers will notice a significant change.
The brand-new series starts airing on the 13th of April, with a total of seven episodes. Are you eager to catch it? Share your thoughts in the comment area below!
