I had the pleasure of witnessing the unveiling of a fresh gameplay trailer for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which was graciously shared by 11 bit studios during the recent Triple-I Initiative presentation.
In the gameplay trailer, we got a glimpse of the eagerly awaited sequel featuring enhanced 3D graphics, showcased in thrilling battle scenes as well as relaxing shop management segments. The video ended by announcing that it will be available starting summer 2025.
11 bit studios, where I work as an analyst, has been making some significant strides lately with recent successful releases like The Thaumaturge, Indika, Frostpunk 2, and Creatures of Ava. This Polish publisher and independent studio show no signs of letting up, teaming up with The Outer Zone to publish the upcoming roguelike deck builder Death Howl and Digital Sun for Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.
Previously, Digital Sun collaborated with 11 bit studios to launch the initial Moonlighter in 2018. This game is an action-adventure RPG featuring pixel art, where players control a young merchant named Will during the day, who runs a shop in his village, and at night, embarks on perilous expeditions to gather new items from an excavation site.
After the debut of Moonlighter, Digital Sun and 11 bit studios diligently continued improving the game and providing additional content post-release. Yet, with quite some time having passed since Moonlighter’s launch, a sequel seemed rather uncertain.
Until as late as late 2024, the announcement of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault came, accompanied by a trailer that revealed the game series was undergoing a significant upgrade. Previously, Moonlighter sported a top-down pixel visual style; however, it is now adopting a more isometric camera perspective and transitioning to a 3D art design.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and pride when reflecting on the impact Moonlighter had for us all five years ago. It was a defining moment that underscored the evolution of Digital Sun as a team. Now, with Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, we’re pouring our knowledge and creativity into something truly exceptional. We’re committed to crafting an experience that surpasses its predecessor in every aspect, while also infusing it with even more irresistible charm in every detail. This is Javier Gimenez, Digital Sun CEO, speaking on behalf of the entire team.

In Moonlighter 2, Will’s old village and store are no more. Instead, our spirited explorer and his comrades will venture into the crypts of Tresna, a fresh village hidden within a mystifying realm. Naturally, with these new crypts come new goods for Will to stock in his shop.
In much the same way as Moonlighter 1, the sequel, Moonlighter 2, will have players managing their dungeon loot by selling it, and using the profits to enhance the local town’s economy. This will grant access to new items and upgrades for the protagonist, Will, allowing him to venture deeper into uncharted territories.
At first, the release date for players was just a wide range up to 2025, but it’s now been specifically defined. When the heat becomes unbearable, everyone can take refuge in the dungeons of Tresna upon the launch of Moonlighter 2 this summer on both Xbox and PC, with access on Xbox Game Pass on the same day.
