As a longtime fan of both animated fantasy series and Lance Reddick’s captivating performances, I find myself eagerly anticipating the third season of The Legend of Vox Machina. This show has consistently delivered a unique blend of humor, heart, and high-stakes adventure, but the upcoming season holds a bittersweet significance with the posthumous return of Lance Reddick as the formidable villain, Thordak.
Almost set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video, the third season of Critical Role Productions’ highly praised adult-oriented animated fantasy series, The Legend of Vox Machina, is approaching. Notably, this season serves as a goodbye for Lance Reddick, who lent his voice to the character Thordak.
Although it was previously understood that Reddick would reappear as the primary antagonist after his death, it’s now officially confirmed that a tribute honoring the iconic actor will also be included in the show.
According to Riegel, following the initial episode of the season, there’s a tribute card saying “In Memory Of” dedicated to him.
“But it was such a sudden passing, we didn’t have a chance to really say goodbye or anything.
We’ve communicated with his family, and his wife was incredibly understanding and made an effort to ensure his voice remained part of the program. We were pleased with this outcome.
He added: “It was an honour to work with him, for sure. I’m glad this was one of the last things that he got to do.”
Matthew Mercer, who is both an executive producer and provides voices for different characters, shared: “For such a long time, we’ve been fans of his work, and having him join the series was incredibly significant to us. I was fortunate enough to meet him personally just before he passed away, and it left quite an impact on everyone involved. It was a tough moment for all of us.
Discussing grief as a central motif this season, we’re also dealing with a hint of the raw, everyday grief. We strive to ensure this is as extraordinary as possible, not just for the memories it evokes, but also to honor the impact he had on one of my cherished, larger-than-life villain characters.
His contributions added a delightful subtleness along with immense power and awe-inspiring force at times. He took Thordak to heights I never imagined, and I’m deeply thankful for our collaboration on this experience.
As a diehard movie buff, I can’t help but express my excitement for the final, towering portrayal by Lance Reddick as Thordak in season 3. Our beloved Vox Machina band of heroes will embark on an epic journey to the very depths of hell itself, all in a valiant attempt to rescue Exandria from the clutches of the fearsome dragon ruler of the Chroma Conclave and his formidable army.
