The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Trailer Showcases Hyrule Biomes, Bind Ability, Horse Riding, and More

Oh, the sheer excitement that’s been building up in my heart since the announcement of “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom“! As a lifelong fan who’s traversed the vast landscapes of Hyrule more times than I can remember, this news has sent me into a frenzy.

We didn’t anticipate the launch of another major Zelda game for the Switch at this stage in its life, especially a 2D one featuring Princess Zelda as the main character. Yet, here we are with The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and it’s arriving in just under two months! In anticipation of its upcoming launch, Nintendo has shared an extensive gameplay trailer filled with new details.

The trailer starts off with details on the various biomes you’ll be exploring as you traverse Echoes of Wisdom’s version of the kingdom of Hyrule, many of which will be familiar (to varying degrees) to series fans, including the shining sands of the Gerudo Desert, the villages of both the sea and river Zora in the Jabul Waters region, the idyllic Kakariko village, the cliffs and lava rivers of the Eldin Volcano region, and more.

In this extensive and diverse game environment, players will encounter numerous paths they can take. To begin with, you’ll notice distinct landmarks called waypoints strategically placed across the map. These waypoints act as quick teleportation spots that you can instantly jump to once you’ve located them within the world.

Zelda not only has the ability to traverse Hyrule on horseback, but this method also offers her an edge against foes. She can either outrun them or charge straight into combat to inflict damage. Upon obtaining the Echo of the Carrot item, Zelda gains the power to summon her steed whenever she desires. It’s worth noting that various types of horses will be accessible as she progresses in her journey.

As you journey through Hyrule, you’ll stumble upon smoothie stands where you can mix various items you’ve collected to make a variety of smoothies, each offering distinct boosts and perks. Moreover, you’ll have the chance to outfit Zelda with various types of gear. Some of this equipment will offer gameplay advantages and power-ups, while others are merely aesthetic changes.

Simultaneously, the trailer unveils a significant new skill that appears essential to the fundamental gameplay of Echoes of Wisdom. Apart from crafting Echoes of various objects, creatures, and adversaries, Zelda will also harness her Tri Rod to activate her Bind ability, which allows her to attach objects to her movements.

Essentially, the ability allows objects to follow Zelda’s movements. If you encounter an obstacle like a huge rock that can’t be moved another way, you can attach (or bind) it to her, then maneuver so it replicates her actions until it falls or moves out of the way, opening up a path for Zelda. This skill has multiple uses; for example, Zelda can use Bind to uncover hidden treasures, move enemies over dangerous edges during battles, causing them to fall and perish, or even manipulate Echoes in the same manner.

Instead of the Reverse Bond ability being exclusive to Zelda, she can also utilize it. This skill links Zelda to an object or creature’s movement, allowing players to bind themselves to a bird to fly over a gap, or to a swift enemy for faster navigation through the map. For additional information, please watch the trailer.

“The Legend of Zelda: Wisdom’s Echo” debuts on September 26th for Nintendo Switch. According to a recent ESRB rating, the game will star Princess Zelda as its central character, but fans can also play as Link, the series’ regular protagonist. For more details, check it out here.
