The Listeners unveils haunting teaser for ominous drama with Rebecca Hall

As someone who has navigated through the complexities of unexplained phenomena in my own life, I find the premise of “The Listeners” particularly intriguing. Rebecca Hall’s portrayal of Claire, a woman struggling with an enigmatic sound that no one else seems to hear, resonates deeply with me. It’s a tale of isolation, connection, and the human spirit’s indomitable will to find understanding in the face of the unknown.

In the play, Rebecca Hall portrays Claire, a well-known high school English instructor, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she starts experiencing a persistent low buzzing noise that appears to be inaudible to everyone else in her vicinity.

In the introductory scene, there are several tight close-ups of Claire, played by Hall, and her voiceover shares: “It was hard to fathom just how drastically my life could fall apart.”

“It seemed almost insignificant and quiet, a sound barely noticeable. Perhaps it was just my imagination playing tricks on me – that might have been the issue.”

You can watch the teaser right here now.

In the series, it’s shown that a mounting tension develops among Claire, her spouse Paul, and their daughter Ashley, as no physician can pinpoint a medical explanation for Claire’s health issue.

When Kyle reveals he too can perceive this sound, a unique and personal bond forms between them, as they both gradually distance themselves from family, acquaintances, and coworkers due to their shared experience.

Afterward, they join forces with an assorted crowd of neighbors who likewise assert that they can perceive The Hum, and regard it as a special ability, audible exclusively to a select group.

In this series, you’ll find a stellar cast that includes Prasanna Puwanarajah known from “The Crown”, Amr Waked recognized for his role in “Ramy”, Gayle Rankin who has been seen on “House of the Dragon”, Mia Tharia from “Phoenix Rise”, Franc Ashman from “Inside Man”, Samuel Edward Cook from “Peaky Blinders”, Karen Henthorn from “Coronation Street”, Lucy Sheen known for “Ping Pong” and Ian Mercer from “All Creatures Great and Small”.

Initially, BBC Drama’s Lindsay Salt stated that “The Listeners” is an enthralling tale, skillfully transformed into a tense retelling. This adaptation cleverly combines an air of mystery with the necessity of emotional bonding among humans.

I’m excited about collaborating with Jordan, Janicza, and Element Pictures on this project. I can hardly wait for audiences to witness this captivating drama we’ve created.

The Listeners will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
