The Miz Recounts Apology From CM Punk While Still Under Contract With AEW

As a gamer and a long-time fan of professional wrestling, I’m thrilled to see CM Punk make his successful return to the WWE fold. The build-up to this moment has been fascinating, with reports of Punk interacting with various WWE personnel during his brief appearance backstage at Monday Night Raw.

Despite setbacks from an injury, CM Punk’s comeback to WWE has been a triumphant turn of events for both Punk and the company. Currently, one of the most talked-about storylines in WWE revolves around Punk’s feud with Drew McIntyre. It’s astonishing to recall that last year, Punk was embroiled in turmoil following an altercation at AEW All In. The path leading to Punk and WWE’s eventual reunion began while he was still in AEW. During a visit backstage to Monday Night Raw, Punk conversed with The Miz. Although he was ultimately asked to depart, their conversation during this brief encounter led to them resolving their differences. In a recent interview on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, Miz revealed that Punk did indeed apologize and the two put their past behind them.

Mending Fences

“I recalled an encounter from Chicago that left me utterly surprised. As I descended the staircase, there he was, standing still. You know, the one who had departed long ago and never returned. It seemed unlikely we’d ever meet again, yet here we were, face to face. Backstage.

During the April 24th, 2023 episode of Monday Night Raw, a meeting transpired where sources, as reported by Fightful, mentioned that Punk not only crossed paths with Miz but also had interactions with Bobby Lashley, Baron Corbin, Tamina, and Triple H. The encounter between Punk and Triple H was brief yet allegedly successful, ending with a handshake. However, shortly after this exchange, the head of WWE security requested Punk’s departure. The process went without incident and Punk complied accordingly.

Burying the Hatchet

During that fateful night, Punk and Triple H exchanged few words, but they engaged in a more extensive dialogue prior to Punk’s shocking WWE comeback at Survivor Series. In an exclusive interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Punk shared insights into their lengthy conversation. He disclosed that they reminisced over past disagreements and even chuckled about them. Subsequently, their focus shifted to orchestrating Punk’s swift return to the WWE ring.

“I asked him if he wanted to talk on the phone, and he said, ‘No, I would actually like to FaceTime you so I can see you,'” Punk said. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ We just talked about a whole lot of stuff and about stuff that was, at one point, probably serious to both of us that is silly now. We just kind of laughed, buried the hatchet, and then we started talking business. I was like, ‘Man, this is Thanksgiving. I don’t wanna bother you, you’re with your girls, we can talk about it later.’ But then I was just like, ‘Ah well, Friday, and then the show’s Saturday.’ It all got done very, very fast.”
