CD Projekt RED has officially taken over The Molasses Flood, resulting in The Molasses Flood no longer operating as an independent legal entity. This information was shared via a statement on The Molasses Flood’s official website (as reported by Eurogamer), indicating that the merger became effective on April 1st.
Here’s some news for you: On April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood LLC (“TMF”) combined with CD PROJEKT RED Inc. (“CDPR Inc.”), a company within the CD PROJEKT Group. As a consequence of this merger, TMF no longer exists as a separate legal entity and its operations have ended. Instead, CDPR Inc. now holds the rights and responsibilities that TMF once had.
The studio made it clear that despite this transition, they won’t halt their work on “The Flame in the Flood” and “Drake Hollow”. Even after the development phase ends, CD Projekt will still handle the publication of these games.
According to their statement, the merger won’t impact the distribution or accessibility of ‘The Flame in The Flood’ and ‘Drake Hollow’ video games. Both titles will still be published by CD PROJEKT Group.
Damian Isla, co-founder of The Molasses Flood, discussed the details of the merger on LinkedIn. In his post, he described the move as signifying the close of an era. Furthermore, Isla viewed the merger positively, stating that it would aid in breaking down organizational walls within the studio.
Isla emphasized that this is a POSITIVE AND HEALTHY development for the studio, which was long-anticipated. It dismantles certain organizational walls and brings the TMF team closer to the rest of CDPR. This move indicates a promising future for Project Sirius, also known as “the multiplayer Witcher game,” where I served as Design Director for three years. It promises to be an extraordinary game, one that will leave a lasting impression, and Isla is eager for everyone else to find out about our work.
Instead, Isla clarifies that he will not be part of TMF’s transition process moving forward. He made it clear that March 31 marked his final day at the studio.
It’s clear that this is a significant shift,” he explained. “For over a decade, TMF has played a substantial role in my life, and I take great pride in contributing to its longevity, especially considering the challenging market conditions for small teams like ours. I believe we created some extraordinary, unique, and cherished works, and I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with many kind-hearted, giving, and gifted individuals within the industry.
CD Projekt purchased The Molasses Flood back in October 2021. Since then, The Molasses Flood has been developing its individual projects along with “Project Sirius,” which is an upcoming multiplayer game set within the world of the “The Witcher” series.
