The Monkey – TRAILER

As a seasoned cinephile with decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that The Monkey trailer piques my interest significantly. Having delved into Stephen King’s oeuvre extensively and appreciated Oswood Perkins’ unique directorial style, this fusion seems like a tantalizing prospect.

Under the direction of Oswald Perkins, “The Monkey” is a movie adaptation of a 1980 short story by Stephen King with the same title.

Discovering our late father’s ancient monkey trinket hidden in the loft, my twin brother and I unwittingly set off a string of grisly demises. Overwhelmed by these events, we chose to discard that toy and focus on distancing ourselves from the chilling past. As time passed, our bond weakened and we grew increasingly separate.

Featuring Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Elijah Wood, director Osgood Perkins’ latest movie “Longlegs” has been one of the standout horror films this year. It even topped the list as the UK’s highest-grossing independent horror film of the past decade, suggesting that his upcoming project is also promising.

Director Perkins expressed that “The Monkey” will be funnier than any of his prior projects, stating, “It’s shaping up to resemble an old John Landis film, a Joe Dante film, or a Robert Zemeckis film.” He saw a chance to create a witty, absurd comedy about death. Essentially, it’s a commentary on the universal truth that we all die, and he finds the idea of our mortality to be both funny and bizarre. Approaching the topic from a tragicomic perspective felt appropriate, as it seemed to align well with the subject matter.

Perkins added, “Ultimately, if you’re aiming for reduction, it falls under the category of haunted or evil toy subgenres, and I couldn’t fathom creating a serious piece within that realm. To me, such an approach seemed entirely implausible, so I opted to go in a contrasting direction instead.

THE MONKEY WILL BE RELEASED IN CINEMAS ON 21st FEBRUARY 2025
