As a devoted fan of “The Newsreader,” I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of its third season in the UK. However, it seems that my excitement might be short-lived as the first season is due to disappear from iPlayer soon.
All six episodes of season 1 will be leaving the BBC’s streaming platform on 14th April.
The broadcaster has made it clear that season 2 is definitely continuing, but as for whether or not we’ll get season 3, no announcements have been made just yet.
The third season began airing in Australia earlier this year via ABC TV.
The show is based in the ’80s and features Anna Torv from Mindhunter playing Helen Norville and Sam Reid from Interview with the Vampire as Dale Jennings, who are both anchors at an Australian newsroom and have a history of being romantically involved, sometimes on again, sometimes off again.
Seasons 1 and 2 depicted them grappling with the overlap of their private and work lives, as well as instances where their career goals hindered their personal ones.
The duo is accompanied by a gifted ensemble of co-stars. Robert Taylor, famously known for his role in Longmire, plays Geoff Walters, who is Helen’s professional adversary. Stephen Peacocke portrays Rob Rickards, the sports editor, and Michelle Lim Davidson takes on the roles of researcher and autocue operator, Noelene Kim (later Rickards), who is also romantically involved with Rickards.
The couple has a supporting cast full of talented actors like Robert Taylor as Geoff Walters, their rival in the workplace, Stephen Peacocke as Rob Rickards, the sports editor, and Michelle Lim Davidson as researcher and autocue operator, Noelene Kim, who is also involved with Rickards romantically.)
All of them bar Taylor return for season 3.
Seasons 1 and 2 garnered critical praise in Australia and the UK, and it is anticipated that the show’s next season will mark its end.
