The Odyssey First Look Reveals Matt Damon as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan Movie

On Monday, we caught our first glimpse of Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming movie, “The Odyssey,” via its official social media accounts, which featured Matt Damon in character as Odysseus. The film appears to be set historically, with Damon depicted wearing a Legionnaire’s helmet, cape, and forearm bracers, standing before a colossal fresco. Given that filming is expected to start this month, this image seems to have been taken quite recently. “The Odyssey” is slated for release in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Since Nolan’s Odyssey was first announced in December, there has been plenty of discussion about the project, but details about its plot have remained scarce. This new image suggests that Damon is portraying Odysseus himself, yet the specific roles for each cast member are still unclear. Some fans speculate that this could be a contemporary retelling of the Ancient Greek epic, however, this image seems to hint at it being a faithful historical adaptation instead.

In a cinematic retelling, Matt Damon portrays the legendary hero Odysseus. The epic saga, titled “#TheOdysseyMovie,” directed by Christopher Nolan, will be gracing the big screens on July 17, 2026.
