In Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming epic, it is Matt Damon who will take on the central role, much like Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey.
In the freshly unveiled snapshot (up there), you’ll notice Damon immersing himself in his character while spearheading a stellar ensemble cast. Filming has commenced.
On the formal social media account for the movie, it’s announced that Matt Damon plays the role of Odysseus and that “The Odyssey Movie,” directed by Christopher Nolan, will be hitting theaters on July 17, 2026.
In the upcoming movie directed by Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon is part of an impressive lineup of actors that also includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron, among others.
There was a lot of discussion about who each actor might portray within the starlit ensemble, but only Damon’s character assignment has been made public so far.
Despite the whispers, there are reports suggesting that Tom Holland might take on the role of Telemachus; however, this casting hasn’t been officially verified yet.
The epic poem “The Odyssey” narrates the adventure of King Odysseus from Ithaca, detailing his return voyage following the Trojan War. Spanning 24 chapters, this tale recounts Odysseus’s interactions with various characters such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the temptress Sirens, and the sorceress Circe who possesses divine powers.
Last year, Universal revealed that they will capture the upcoming movie utilizing the latest IMAX film tech, filming it in various locations worldwide.
In this instance, Nolan is collaborating with Universal for a second time, following their successful collaboration on the Academy Award-winning film “Oppenheimer.” This project brought Nolan accolades in the categories of Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars.
For the first time, the movie adapts Homer’s epic tale onto IMAX cinema screens, as stated by Universal previously.
