As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the revival of the Karate Kid universe on Netflix with the phenomenal success of Cobra Kai. The sequel series was a massive triumph over its six seasons, making it only fitting for the original Karate Kid films to be easily accessible on the same platform. However, when we transitioned from March to April, I found myself at a loss as Netflix parted ways with all three of the original Karate Kid movies, making it more challenging for fans like me to fully immerse ourselves in the tale of Daniel and Johnny’s journey.
For quite some time, the initial three “Karate Kid” movies featuring Ralph Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso have been available on Netflix. However, as of April 1st, only the “Cobra Kai” series remains on Netflix. Luckily for fans of “The Karate Kid”, you can effortlessly find those films (on the same platform), but you’ll need to switch over to a different provider.
Following Netflix’s departure, the original Karate Kid movies found a new home at Hulu, where they can now be streamed in both English and Spanish. It’s fantastic that the trilogy is preserved on another platform, but it does become inconvenient for fans of the series as it requires two separate subscriptions to watch these films and the spin-off TV series they inspired.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I must say that since “Cobra Kai” is an exclusive Netflix original series, it’s highly unlikely that it will ever be streamed anywhere else. To reunite all the “Karate Kid” titles under one roof again, we’ll need to bring those iconic movies back to Netflix.
