The Outer Worlds 2 Director Responds to Criticism Over $79.99 Price – “We Don’t Set Prices”

The upcoming game “The Outer Worlds 2” has sparked debate over its cost, as it was confirmed by Obsidian Entertainment and Microsoft that it will retail for $80. Some players are voicing their disapproval of this pricing policy. In an interview, Director Brandon Adler clarified that the studio doesn’t have control over setting the game’s price.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Adler emphasized that “We’re a game studio, and we enjoy creating games. We don’t decide the prices for our games. As a game developer myself, I wish everyone could play my game because that’s what this entire endeavor is about for me. However, to understand why the game costs $79.99, you should really talk to the Xbox team.

Over the weekend, the official price of $79.99 for The Outer Worlds 2 was confirmed, shortly after its trailer release. Additionally, information about a Premium Edition was unveiled, priced at $99.99. This edition will offer two of the upcoming post-launch expansion packs, an electronic artbook, the soundtrack, and in-game bonuses in the form of the Corporate Appreciation Premium Pack. The recently unveiled trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 offers a sneak peek into its narrative, where players assume the role of an Earth Directorate agent embarking on a mission to Arcadia, tasked with investigating ominous universal dangers. Additionally, it was made clear in the trailer that this RPG will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 29th.

More recently, Adler discussed how Obsidian Entertainment addressed criticisms about the inconsistent tone from their game, The Outer Worlds. This feedback resulted in the studio planning to make the sequel more serious and less humorous compared to the initial release. Adler admitted that the writing in The Outer Worlds occasionally lacked depth and could appear repetitive at times.

Adler mentioned that you’ll find a slightly serious, more ominous feel to it. This is largely due to Leonard, as he tends to bring this kind of atmosphere, giving a stronger influence in that direction. As a result, the overall narrative seems to have a darker interpretation of the events unfolding.

While The Outer Worlds 2 might not be an entirely serious game devoid of humor, there are still instances where you’ll encounter witty and amusing dialogue that fits well within the game’s narrative.

Adler clarified that they aimed to preserve the same atmosphere from the original game. During player interactions with various factions, they can expect to encounter the same offbeat humor, but with a twist. It’s intended to be slightly less whimsical and much more surreal instead.

For now, satisfy your curiosity regarding “The Outer Worlds 2” by exploring information on its main factions: The Protectorate, The Order of the Ascendant, and Auntie’s Choice.
