As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to see that The Outer Worlds 2 is not just tweaking its Skills system to boost build diversity, but Obsidian Entertainment is going the extra mile. They’re beefing up the Perks system with an impressive collection of over 90 options. Some of these perks cater to combat-focused gameplay, while others are designed for players who prefer to explore “non-traditional” playstyles.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled by the revelation that our lead systems designer, Kyle Koenig, has shared with IGN First – we’ve amplified the Perk count to over 90! Each of these enticing additions demands specific Skills to be unlocked. As you progressively hone your Skills, it subtly alters the ways you can invest in Perks, paving the way for countless unique paths. For instance, Run and Gun enables rapid-fire of shotguns, SMGs, and assault rifles while sprinting and sliding. This combination is already impressive, but it truly shines with the inclusion of Tactical Time Dilation, a bullet-time-like feature that makes combat even more exhilarating!
Instead of just being a Space Ranger, this character enhances damage according to their Speech abilities and expands dialogue options. In other words, when designing this character, we considered various playstyles the player might have, and all the possible actions they could perform, then found ways to customize these actions.
You can construct characters that specialize in various forms of elemental harm. As Koenig explains, “You could create a character that excels in multiple elements, such as a being who ignites things with plasma and heals themselves from the resulting damage, or one who uses electric shock to disable automatons temporarily and paralyze creatures and humans, or even one who weakens enemies by corroding their armor, making each attack a critical hit that deals massive damage.
If you enjoy annihilating non-player characters (NPCs) and find satisfaction in such actions, then choosing the Psychopath or Serial Killer character traits might be ideal for you, as they boost your maximum health. In a game developed by Obsidian where killing any character is possible, the game will adapt and accommodate this style of play, allowing you to still finish the game. This method of playing can be quite entertaining, especially during subsequent playthroughs, as you experiment with how extreme you can push it. Matt Singh, the design director, expresses this sentiment.
Coming up this year is the sequel titled “The Outer Worlds 2“. In this game, players assume the role of an Earth Directorate agent who journeys to Arcadia in order to contain a rift-related crisis. It will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms (Battle.net among them), with a Direct planned for June 8th.
