The Penguin is ratings smash hit as figures confirmed – beating Succession

As a cinephile with decades of viewing experiences under my belt, I must say that The Penguin has certainly made a splash in the television landscape. Having followed the trajectory of Colin Farrell’s career since his early days, it’s been fascinating to witness him transform into the enigmatic and complex character of Oz Cobblepot.

Viewers have taken a liking to The Penguin, as the Batman spin-off series has been drawing in massive audiences since it premiered five days back, with millions tuning in to watch it.

5.3 million American viewers have tuned in to watch Colin Farrell starring as the main character alongside Cristin Milioti in “The Penguin” since its premiere on the 19th of September, according to Variety, across various viewing platforms.

The diagram shows that both traditional broadcasts on HBO and online streaming have contributed to the largest audience for a debut series on Max since “The Last of Us,” which premiered in January 2023.

5.3 million is a higher viewership than both the season finale of Succession (4.9 million viewers) and the premiere of The White Lotus’s second season (4.1 million viewers).

Nevertheless, this event took place after the debut of True Detective’s Night Country, which attracted an audience of 5.7 million viewers.

In the sequel, we find Colin Farrell reprising his role as the legendary Gotham City gangster, delving into the story of Oz Cobb’s ascent to power within Gotham’s criminal underworld, set in the aftermath of 2022’s The Batman.

It’s quite dim, my friend, The Penguin. It’s incredibly dark, indeed. I’m overjoyed to have wrapped up this project, and I truly enjoyed every moment of it, but honestly, by the time we finished, I was more than ready to step out of that makeup chair.

Beginning on Friday, 20th September 2024, the show titled “The Penguin” can be watched on both Sky Atlantic and NOW. For details on subscribing to Sky TV, explore more information.
