The way it seamlessly ties into the events of “The Batman” movie, with The Riddler’s influence still looming large over Gotham, is nothing short of masterful storytelling.
In the continuation of the Batman movie storyline, The Penguin TV series finds Gotham City reeling from a terrorist attack orchestrated by The Riddler. It’s no wonder that as Oz Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) seeks to take control of the underworld, Gotham is still grappling with the Riddler’s labyrinth. The premiere of The Penguin subtly reminds viewers of the lasting effect The Riddler has on Gotham’s societal structure.
In the initial scene of “The Penguin” Episode 1 titled “After Hours,” Oz, accompanied by Victor Aguilar who is also a hostage, leaves Gotham City on a train for the suburbs to meet Oz’s mother Francis.
