The Penguin: Release date, cast, trailer, news for The Batman spin-off

As a long-time Batman fan and movie critic with a particular fondness for the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery, I am thrilled to my core about HBO’s upcoming series, The Penguin. Having grown up watching various adaptations of this iconic character on both the big and small screens, it’s exciting to see Oswald Cobblepot come to life once again, this time with Colin Farrell taking on the role.

Exciting news for Batman enthusiasts: HBO’s The Penguin with Colin Farrell is set to be released at last.

At San Diego Comic Con, the official launch date was announced along with a thrilling new trailer for our viewing pleasure.

In the latest video, the Penguin is shown dancing with his previously institutionalized mother from Arkham Asylum. She shares with him, “I’ve made great strides in my recovery.”

As a devoted cinema-goer, I eagerly awaited the moment in the trailer when I’d see the protagonist encounter Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti on the screen. Yet, unlike the Sofia I knew from the comics, this version seemed fresh and intriguing – a new take on an old favorite.

The show will explore the journey of Oswald Cobblepot, the notorious villain originally developed for DC by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, as he climbs the ranks in Gotham’s criminal realm.

Here’s everything we know so far about The Penguin!

The Penguin release date

On Thursday, the 19th of September, the new Penguin series will be made available. Each episode will follow, airing on a weekly basis, and the final episode of the season will be shown on 7th November.

In the United States, the program will be broadcast on HBO and available for streaming on Max. In contrast, viewers in the United Kingdom can enjoy it through Sky and NOW.

In September 2021, The Penguin project was initiated, and HBO placed an order for it after The Batman’s achievement brought positive responses.

Starting in March 2023, filming took place, but it came to a stop because of the labor conflicts in Hollywood. Later on, in November, production was able to restart and eventually wrapped up by February 2024.

When The Batman series was initially unveiled, Farrell expressed, “Matt Reeves’s world for The Batman is rich and intriguing enough to merit closer examination from Oswald Cobblepot’s perspective.”

I’m thrilled to my core about delving deeper into Oz’s journey as he ascends through the shadowy layers to transform into The Penguin. It’ll be great to bring him back to the chaotic streets of Gotham for some mischief and chaos.

As a huge fan of The Batman’s universe, I’m thrilled that Matt’s movie has added such a powerful and daring chapter to its rich history, according to showrunner Lauren LeFranc.

I’m elated and honored to carry on crafting tales in the gritty environment of Gotham City. It’s an incredible opportunity to tap into my mischievous side while narrating Oswald Cobblepot’s story. I can’t wait to collaborate with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners, and HBO Max as we bring this captivating tale to life on screen.
