The Penguin Takeover Heads to New York City to Celebrate Premiere

As a lifelong New Yorker, I must say that this week is shaping up to be one for the books! The city I love so dearly is being taken over by none other than The Penguin, and it’s nothing short of magical.

HBO Max is preparing for the debut of “The Penguin,” a spinoff from “The Batman” featuring Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin and nemesis to the Dark Knight. In the lead-up to its premiere on Thursday, September 19th, “The Penguin” has launched a global marketing campaign, starting with San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. As part of the Penguin Takeover, fans can expect exclusive merchandise trucks touring New York City, as well as the illumination of famous landmarks and partnerships with local businesses that will be adorned in The Penguin’s signature plum purple color.

The Penguin Takeover showcases events such as the Feast of San Gennaro, the New York Latino Film Festival Block Party, preliminary screenings at Alamo Drafthouse, and unique offerings from participating businesses – transforming Gotham into a vibrant hub. This takeover extends beyond New York’s borders, with The Penguin’s famous Iceberg Lounge and other experiences being offered in select cities around the globe.

The specifics about The Penguin New York City Takeover (a joint project with MATTE Projects) are outlined below:

The Penguin” is rightfully identified as a “Made in NY” production, a distinction earned when more than three-quarters of its production occurs within New York City. The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), responsible for granting filming rights on public property in New York City, issued over 115 permits for the making of “The Penguin“. These permissions allowed the series to feature the city’s famous landmarks, effectively turning its streets into a post-apocalyptic version of Gotham. By filming in New York City, “The Penguin” contributes significantly to the city’s multi-billion dollar media industry and provides employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers.

Max and T Brand Studio, a content studio within The New York Times Advertising, collaborated to produce a unique edition of “Gotham Gazette” that will encapsulate regular newspaper issues on Thursday, September 19 – the series premiere day. This special issue is set for delivery alongside The New York Times newspapers to its print subscribers. Additionally, select locations have been chosen where hawkers will distribute these issues:
