For quite some time, I’ve been relying on the standard Xbox Wireless Controller due to its dependable wireless functionality, sleek and appealing design, and affordable cost. However, I haven’t used any of those original controllers for several months now.
Because I’ve been utilizing the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro for a review, I must say it is the initial true wireless Xbox controller from Razer that emphasizes enhancing your optimal gaming experience.
This new version of the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, known for its abundance of features and resistance to stick drift, has been a joy to use. It stands as one of the top Xbox controllers we’ve reviewed, and it now comes in a fresh, new color.

You know, having just the technical details might not be thrilling, but viewing real photographs of the device (rather than idealized illustrations) and listening to an account from someone who has actually used it could give you a better sense of whether this controller is the one you should invest in next.
First impressions of the Razer Wolverine V3 White Edition
The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro deviates slightly from the classic design of the Xbox Wireless Controller, yet maintains a high level of comfort and ergonomics independently. Its initial construction quality is impressive, and the White Edition retains all the same superior features.
As I unveiled the freshly arrived Wolverine V3 Pro, a sense of familiarity washed over me. The high-end, sleek black travel case was present, with its customized compartments for both types of thumbstick replacements – one of each, just as expected. Inside, I found a USB Type-A dongle, matching the device’s color scheme, designed for Razer HyperSpeed Wireless compatibility across both Xbox and Windows PC platforms. Accompanying them was a 10ft long, braided USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable, unfortunately, not sharing the same hue as the rest of the package.
As an analyst, I can attest that the new controller maintains the same tactile feel in my hand; however, it has undergone a design transformation to a two-tone aesthetic. The dominant color scheme is white, encompassing the entire body, grips, Menu, View, Share, and Function buttons. In stark contrast, all other elements such as the remaining buttons, thumbsticks, and triggers are finished in black.
The appearance is remarkably neat and tidy. Lately, with a gradual change towards more white elements in my computer setup that’s predominantly black, I find myself appreciating it greatly.
How does it compare to the regular Wolverine V3 Pro?
Despite not utilizing all six of the reprogrammable buttons on the Wolverine V3 Pro to their full potential, it remains my preferred and most exceptional game controller yet.
The freshly introduced White Edition embodies all the aspects I adore in the model I’ve been relying on for months, yet introduces an appealing new hue. It boasts comfort, responsiveness, and dependability, much like its predecessor. What’s more, it maintains the same price point as the original, a fact that isn’t always assured (particularly with Razer products).
In the review I conducted, the Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition I assessed was given a white color scheme as well. If you’re willing to spend more money, you can opt for the sleek, wireless version; otherwise, there’s an option available with a wired connection at a lower price point.
No matter which direction you choose, you’ll always receive the same high-quality product; however, there remains an initial apprehension from the original version, along with a fresh concern associated with the White Edition.
How has the original Razer Wolverine V3 Pro held up over time?
In the review for the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro that I wrote for Windows Central, I offered my personal insights which contrasted slightly with my colleague Richard Devine’s overall conclusion by pointing out a few points where I found room for improvement.
Clearly, it remains my preferred Xbox controller and I continue to utilize it daily, even with numerous other options at hand. However, given its $200 price point, there have been some imperfections that I’ve encountered.
Initially, I found that one of the back buttons felt loose after only a few weeks of usage, and it now consistently double-clicks annoyingly. Additionally, another back button shows signs of doing the same, albeit less noticeably.
Although the thumbstick is supposed to return to its original position without any movement (zero stick drift), I’ve noticed that it occasionally doesn’t go back to neutral upon release, causing a slight drift. A gentle touch usually resets it, but the issue persists.
Occasionally, the Wolverine V3 Pro seems to lose its connection even when left on, forcing me to restart it manually. Often, it struggles to power on my Xbox Series X. During gameplay, I’ve encountered occasional disruptions in connectivity.
These issues rarely arise or, in the grand scheme of things, are insignificant, but since there’s no certainty that the White Edition won’t encounter similar problems, it’s important to point it out.
It seems that the “Share” and “Xbox” buttons on my controller frequently become unresponsive when it’s connected to a Windows PC, usually requiring a controller reset to fix the issue.
Should I be concerned about the white color, especially the grips?
White products can certainly stand out as a unique aesthetic, but it’s worth noting that black and gray hues often serve as the standard color choices (apart from the prevalence of darker technology). This preference is largely due to their durability and longevity.
Regardless if it’s due to the yellowning impact of sunlight, normal wear and tear caused by human interaction, or simply the buildup of dirt and filth over a period, it appears that white items are destined to show signs of aging more quickly.
Controllers are particularly prone to this process due to being regularly handled by users (often for extended periods). Switching the grips to black could significantly boost a controller’s resistance to discoloration, and I anticipated that Razer would adopt the same strategy for the Wolverine V3 Pro as they did with their previous models.
Regrettably, it seems rather challenging for Razer to modify the Wolverine V3 Pro due to its design.
After more than a dozen hours of use, I haven’t noticed any staining on the Wolverine V3 Pro White Edition yet, but given my frequent hand washing habit and careful handling of technology, it doesn’t necessarily mean that staining won’t be a concern down the line.
If you have kids who often handle your controllers and are worried about its longevity, you might want to consider other options rather than going for the White Edition.
Still an amazing wireless controller, and it looks great in white
The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Wireless Controller works exceptionally well for both Xbox and PC, and its White Edition is identical. However, I still harbor some doubts about the product’s quality control, and the all-white design, including the grips, doesn’t alleviate these concerns. Despite this, it’s a high-end controller that boasts an appealing, premium look when it’s in white.
