The Rings of Power: Sam Hazeldine Reflects on Taking Over the Role of Adar in Season 2

As a die-hard fan of epic fantasy series and someone who has witnessed the rise and fall of great stories like Game of Thrones, I must say that my excitement for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 knows no bounds! And let me tell you, the cast change from Joseph Mawle to Sam Hazeldine as Adar is not just a switch, it’s a transformation that promises to bring even more depth and intrigue to this already captivating tale.

In the second installment of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” now streaming on Prime Video, there’s an interesting change in the cast from Season 1. Joseph Mawle, known for his role as Adar in the first season, has been swapped out with Sam Hazeldine this time around. Recently, Hazeldine spoke to ComicBook about stepping into the role, expressing delight at portraying such a complex and rich character.

“Hazeldine replied, ‘Not at all, it wasn’t difficult, quite the contrary, it was truly enjoyable.’ He added, ‘I believe the reason is that the character, skillfully crafted by the writers and Joseph in Season 1, was so multi-dimensional. Consequently, it was a great honor to step into this character and follow the story further. To put it simply, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.'”

He also opened up about where he sees Adar on the “moral spectrum”.

“He seems unconcerned about ethical considerations,” he noted. “It’s more like a ‘whatever needs to be done’ mentality for him, with various aspects at play. He appears determined to secure a home for his children, the uruks, but also bears the emotional and mental scars of his past encounters with Sauron and Morgoth. I believe he harbors many deep-seated issues, yet he’s trying his best. From my understanding, his actions are driven by what he perceives as the wellbeing of his children, making him both compelling and terrifying because he appears to have a justifiable cause and is highly organized.”

What is The Rings of Power Season 2 About?

In Season 2 of “The Rings of Power”, Sauron reappears. Exiled by Galadriel, with no army or allies, the growing Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to regain strength and oversee the construction of the Rings of Power, which will enable him to control all the people of Middle-earth with malevolent intent. Expanding on Season 1’s grand scale and ambition, this new season thrusts even its most cherished and vulnerable characters into a rising wave of darkness, testing each one as they struggle to find their place in a world that is steadily approaching disaster. Elves, dwarves, orcs, humans, wizards, and Harfoots… as friendships falter and realms start to disintegrate, the forces of good will fight harder than ever before to keep what truly matters to them – each other.

The TV series titled “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” was created by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, and it is a retelling of J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, approximately thousands of years prior to the War of the Ring.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video.
