As a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich lore and intricate world-building of Middle-earth, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Season 2 of The Rings of Power! The promise of delving deeper into Sauron’s backstory, and witnessing the power struggle between him and Adar, is a tantalizing prospect that has me on the edge of my seat.
In Season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” viewers can anticipate delving deeper into Sauron’s past. As we follow the unfolding of events during the Second Age, it will be revealed that Sauron faced a critical struggle to regain his power and influence in Middle-earth, shedding light on how the roots of evil he sowed took hold across cultures and landscapes.
In the first season of “The Rings of Power,” the Orcs’ leader, Adar, stirred Mount Doom and turned the southern regions of Middle-earth into the barren wasteland known as Mordor. But as we move forward to Season 2, we’ll uncover the turbulent history between Adar and Sauron, who both sought dominion over Mordor during those initial power struggles.
In simpler terms, Showrunner Patrick McKay, from The Rings of Power series, has shared that the beginning of Season 2 will feature a flashback, focusing on the significant fall of Sauron.
In the depths of darkness, a solitary orc enters, surrounded by thousands more, as showrunner Patrick Mckay shared with Total Film. About to be crowned, this orc presents his vision for Middle-earth, but just as the crown is about to touch his head, his trusted companion, Adar, flips the crown and assassinates him. This act, it seems, is the killing of Sauron.
Sam Hazeldine is stepping into the role of Adar, previously played by Joseph Mawle. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Hazeldine described Adar as someone who feels compelled to protect his people from genocide, whether that threat comes from Sauron, who views them as disposable, or from the elves.
The Rings of Power Season 2 Cast & Story Info
In Season Two of “The Rings of Power”, Sauron makes his reappearance. Exiled by Galadriel, he finds himself without an army or allies, thus requiring his own wit to regain power and supervise the making of the Rings of Power, a process that will enable him to manipulate all the inhabitants of Middle-earth towards his malevolent intentions. Expanding on the grandeur and ambition of Season One, this new season further immerses its cherished and vulnerable characters in an escalating wave of darkness, testing each one to discover their role amidst a world rapidly teetering on the edge of disaster. Be it elves, dwarves, orcs, men, wizards, or Harfoots, relationships are stretched and kingdoms start to crumble, making it more challenging for the forces of good to maintain what they value most: their unity… each other.
In the second season of “The Rings of Power,” we see Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz C?rdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani. However, Nazanin Boniadi, who played the healer Bronwyn in season 1, will not be returning as she has chosen to leave acting.
The Rings of Power Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 29th.
