The Rocketeer and Batman: The Animated Series Getting Limited-Edition Posters From Bottleneck Gallery

As a long-time gamer and comic book enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the latest releases from Bottleneck Gallery. Today’s announcement of new posters inspired by The Rocketeer and Batman: The Animated Series is a dream come true for me.

Today is a thrilling day for comic book and Art Deco enthusiasts as Bottleneck Gallery unveils two new posters merging these two worlds. The gallery introduces a print inspired by the iconic character The Rocketeer, created by Raid71, available in both standard and special edition versions. Additionally, Bottleneck presents prints dedicated to “Batman: The Animated Series” adorned with Tom Walker’s artwork. Sales for these posters and their variants commence today, July 24th, at 2 p.m. ET on Bottleneck Gallery’s official website.

In the late 1980s, Dave Stevens brought the iconic character, The Rocketeer, to life. However, the foundation of this thrilling figure was deeply influenced by the 1930s and the rising trend of Art Deco in America during that time. This aesthetic, with its distinct sense of adventure, resonated strongly with Stevens, who was an ardent admirer of the style. The Art Deco influence was palpable in Stevens’ work as well. When The Rocketeer made the transition to the silver screen in the 1991 film “The Rocketeer,” directed by Joe Johnston, this vintage aesthetic was fully showcased and celebrated.

In the early ’90s, in addition to the blockbuster movies “Batman” and “Batman Returns,” came the debut of “Batman: The Animated Series.” This show, which ran from 1992 to 1995, took inspiration from the success of its film counterparts. It adopted the dark and noir aesthetic from Tim Burton’s films, while also introducing Art Deco elements to emphasize Batman’s enduring appeal. The unique blend of these styles gave the series a distinctive appearance that set it apart from other shows at the time and remains synonymous with the character. The producers affectionately named this visual style “Dark Deco.”
