Ever since the conclusion of the last Star Wars trilogy in 2019, there has been much speculation surrounding potential new movies. However, recent reports suggest that a Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling could be given the go-ahead quite soon.
On December 17, 2027, there’s an unnamed Star Wars film scheduled for release. Interestingly, Shawn Levy and Jonathan Tropper have been developing this Star Wars movie for two years now, which is believed to be the one slated for that date. It’s said to not be connected to the Luke Skywalker series, but rather a standalone production. Lucasfilm declined to comment on any potential deal or specific details about the project.
Reports indicate that the actor developed interest in a project when Levy’s initial movie plan was a boy band film featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, Gosling’s enthusiasm for this project caused the Star Wars project to gain momentum. If the movie gets the go-ahead, production of a Ryan Gosling Star Wars film would commence in autumn 2025, with cameras set to start rolling then.
As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo could bring some exciting news! If they officially announce and confirm something there, it would bump the upcoming project to the front of the line. That’s right, projects led by James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Dave Filoni, which were initially announced at the Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, might have to take a backseat if this happens!
Ryan Gosling hasn’t starred in a major franchise film like many of his fellow leading men have, but that could change with a potential Star Wars movie. His upcoming project is “Project Hail Mary,” a sci-fi thriller directed by the duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were famously removed from the ‘Solo’ production. The film is an adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel.
