The Scrubs Reboot Has Set Its First Returning Actor, And I’m So Excited The Comedy Series Is One Step Closer To Coming Back

Back in my teenage years, some comedies really shaped my humor, and “Scrubs” was one of those groundbreaking shows that left an indelible mark. It’s no secret that it’s considered among the greatest sitcoms ever made, so when I heard about a potential reboot for ABC in December, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation. Now, my enthusiasm has hit another level, as rumors swirl that Zach Braff, the original star of the show, is officially on board for the reboot.

Despite initial plans announced in December that included Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and John C. McGinley for the new version of Scrubs, Deadline now reports that Braff has officially agreed to reprise his role as John “J.D.” Dorian. According to the report, discussions faced significant obstacles concerning finances and Braff’s preference for filming Scrubs 2.0 in Los Angeles instead of Vancouver as initially planned. The situation became so challenging that there was a possibility the reboot might be canceled, but both parties have recently reached an understanding. However, the location for filming remains undisclosed at this time.

Although Scrubs 2.0 hasn’t been officially commissioned as a series yet, Zach Braff joining the project significantly boosts its likelihood. For years, discussions about a Scrubs reboot have taken place, but it wasn’t until creator Bill Lawrence managed to arrange a unique deal that the project began to gain traction. Despite being under an exclusive contract with Warner Bros. Television, where he has created shows like Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Bad Monkey, Lawrence needed several months to secure permission to work on Scrubs 2.0. However, he won’t be serving as the showrunner this time around.

More to come…
