As an observer with over three decades of television watching under my belt, I must say that witnessing the enduring charm and wit of “The Simpsons” never fails to impress me. The show’s 35th anniversary Christmas special on Disney+, titled “O C’mon All Ye Faithful,” brought back retired star Pamela Hayden for some truly memorable moments as Milhouse VanHouten and Rod Flanders.
In honor of its 35-year anniversary, “The Simpsons” is airing a fresh Christmas special, exclusively on Disney+. This latest installment welcomes back retired actress Pamela Hayden for some pivotal scenes. Since its debut on December 17th, 1989, “The Simpsons” initially started with “The Simpsons Christmas Special,” which was not originally intended to be the series premiere. However, it turned out to be such a fitting opening that “The Simpsons” has remained popular for over three decades. Over time, there have undoubtedly been changes since that first episode.
During Season 36, it was confirmed that Pamela Hayden, known for voicing characters like Milhouse VanHouten and Rod Flanders on The Simpsons, would be stepping down after three decades. However, it seems we may not have seen her last appearance yet. Despite retiring from the show, Hayden is still set to make more appearances, as she can be heard in the new Disney+ special in both Milhouse and Rod’s voices. The Simpsons‘ executive producer Matt Selman and writer Carolyn Omine revealed to ComicBook that there are a few more of Hayden’s performances left due to the order of episodes during production.
Pamela Hayden Returns in The Simpsons Disney+ Christmas Special
In the latest Christmas special from The Simpsons on Disney+, titled “O C’mon All Ye Faithful,” Homer gets hypnotized into becoming an exceptional gift giver, leading him to believe he’s Santa Claus. This belief causes quite a stir, particularly for Ned Flanders, who starts questioning the existence of Santa and, in turn, begins doubting God’s reality. As a result, his sons Rod and Todd celebrate a more secular Christmas. In an effort to restore faith, Lisa and Bart introduce them to a toy guidebook.
During these scenes, Hayden delivers some remarkable instances as Rod, and things escalate further when Bart attempts to deceive Ned into rekindling his faith. He recruits Milhouse to portray a ghost similar to Samara from The Ring, emerging from the TV. However, Milhouse reminds him that this shouldn’t be counted towards his screen time. This scene is a fantastic return for Hayden’s well-loved characters, much to the delight of fans who had missed them after the actor’s retirement. Fortunately, it appears that she isn’t completely finished with the show just yet.
Hayden Still Has Some The Simpsons Episodes Left
In an interview with ComicBook, “O C’mon All Ye Faithful” The Simpsons writer Carolyn Omine shared that since episodes are shown out of order, there are still a few performances left featuring Hayden during her time on the series. During the table read for this episode, it was revealed that Hayden had announced her retirement to the cast. Both Selman and Omine appreciated that this episode included some significant moments for Hayden’s characters. Milhouse has a memorable scene, but they were particularly eager to see Rod’s actions in the special.
Although Hayden’s retirement announcement might lead you to believe her time in the series has concluded, since the order of production means there are more instances featuring Hayden left in this season. However, it remains uncertain which episode will mark her final appearance. Keep an eye out for new episodes of Season 36 of The Simpsons on Disney+ following “O C’mon All Ye Faithful.
